A missed miscarriage happens to 1 in 4 women and I (Charlotte) didn’t even know what it was until recently. As I was sitting excitedly on the bed at our 12 week scan, thinking I’d made it to a safer zone and expecting to see a beautiful little face staring back at us, there was nothing. Just an empty, black screen and a deafening silence.

My first thoughts were, “it’s my fault” and “how could I not have known?” I felt like a failure and held such resentment towards myself and my body for having carried on as normal not knowing anything was wrong.

As I sat in those feelings I didn’t want to reach out to anybody, I wanted to hide away but then I read something that said “in the silence of loss grows shame, which feeds loneliness – and women should not have to feel alone.”

So that is my reason for sharing this in today's episode, to open up a conversation that still feels so hidden away and to hopefully reach out to the women who have felt that same loneliness and shame. It is my hope that you leave this episode with a new found, or increased compassion for yourself and all that you have been through.
