We have been studying what the Apostle Paul had to say about the benefits of praying in the Spirit as outlined in Ephesians 6:18. But today, I want us to look at what he had to say in Ephesians 4:6-8.
“Be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, my brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report – if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Many people would like to have the Peace of God that Paul is talking about here in verse 7, right?
Verse 7 in the Amplified Bible says, “And God’s peace be yours, that tranquil state of a soul, assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, whatsoever sort that is, that peace that transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
I like that last part, “that peace which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
This means that God can keep both, your heart and your mind and your spirit, in peace. Amen!
This peace, the Peace of God, comes to us when we obey verse 6, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
This is saying that the Peace of God in our soul lives is the direct result of a successful prayer life and obeying the Word. And we can only do that by spending time in the Word and making a sincere effort at spending time in the presence of God, through the Holy Spirit, during our prayer time. Amen!
It is impossible to obtain all that God wants for us in life, all that has been provided, all things that will give us the Peace of God and the things of God – it is impossible, without spending time in the Word of God through our study time and it is impossible without spending time in the presence of God through our prayer time.
We will pick it up here tomorrow, because I want to show you what happens when you try to do something outside of God’s way of doing things. It just doesn’t work. But we will get into that tomorrow.
Let’s Pray!
