Chase McCants: Masculinity, sexuality, and coming out

The Mandate

05-02-2021 • 1 hr 5 mins

Chase McCants is a serial start up guy, who has worked in the cross-section of IT and healthcare, and he cares a lot about how you feel. I met chase in 2019 when I was interviewing people on the topic of fear and how that shows up at work.

In this episode we cover a lot of ground. This was recorded the day after the insurrection that occurred at the White House in January 2021. I do my best to avoid politics on this show, but we do start off talking about the event and how it was treated as compared to the racism protests and demonstrations in 2020 because this goes beyond politics. We also explore...

  • How we learned what it means to be a guy
  • What it was like for Chase to be raised primarily by women
  • Bullying
  • Coming out
  • Why it requires so much more energy to be someone you're not
  • Why you shouldn't compare your experience to that of others
  • Living with depression and discovering anxiety
  • How more guys are starting to share their feelings and why this is a good thing
  • ...And so much more
