Navigating Pregnancy Loss: Grief & Support (Finley's Story)

Navigating Pregnancy Loss: Grief & Support (Finley's Story)
Hello, dear listeners. I'm Katie Kurpanek, the host of the All Things Sustainable podcast. Today, I'm sharing an episode that is deeply personal and raw, one that comes from a place of vulnerability and love.October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month in the US, and it feels like the right time to have this conversation. In this episode, I'm stepping away from our usual format to share my own journey through pregnancy loss, particularly in the wake of my recent loss with baby Finley. This is not an easy episode to create, but my hope is that by sharing my thoughts and experiences, I can provide solace, understanding, and support to those who have faced or are facing pregnancy loss. You are not alone in this, and I want to help bridge the gap between the silence that often surrounds this topic and the need for open, honest conversations.I'll do my best to share the reality of this process without going into graphic detail, and I offer a trigger warning for a specific part of the episode. Many people, like myself before my first loss, have little to no idea of what a miscarriage truly entails. It's a topic that affects so many (statistically 1 in 4 pregnancies), yet it remains kept in silence. For those who have not experienced a miscarriage but are willing to learn and understand so they can better support their loved ones, I'm here to help. My platform allows me to reach thousands of listeners, and I believe it's essential to use this reach to break the taboo-silence.Pregnancy loss, no matter when it occurs, encompasses not just the loss of a fetus but also the loss of dreams and hopes, and it takes a lasting physical and emotional toll on one's body. No part of this experience is small or insignificant. It's a journey that leaves lasting imprints biologically and psychologically.Thank you for joining me in this conversation, and I hope that by sharing Finley's story and my own, we can shed light on this often-neglected aspect of what it's like to be human, and foster greater understanding and empathy for one another. Additional Resources:There Was A Baby book for grieving siblingsThe Peaceful Mother emotional regulation posters for kidsBigger Than The Whole Sky song by Taylor Swift-------To learn more with your host & Eco-Living Coach, Katie Kurpanek, visit www.thatminimallife.com for video courses, coaching, blogs, a book club, and more!✨SIGN UP TO BECOME AN AFFILIATE & EARN 10% OF ALL SALES MADE WITH YOUR UNIQUE LINK HERE✨Instagram: @that.minimal.lifeEmail: katie.thatminimallife@gmail.com-------This show is brought to you by listener support, and I'm sending a huge shout-out to our patrons for making it happen! To become a patron and receive all the perks of this community, visit www.patreon.com/allthingssustainable and join for as low as $3/month! How to Become an Empowered & Confident Vegan (w/ Colleen Patrick-Goudreau)
Have you learned so much about the meat and dairy industries and/or the benefits of a plant-based diet but the one thing holding you back from embracing the "vegan" title is the fear of change? The anxiety of challenging the status quo? Do you have worries like-- what about the holidays? And what do I tell my family? And why are they reacting like this? And why are people so defensive? And why don't they understand? And how do I deal with travel? ...you're not alone! Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is a recognized expert and thought leader on the culinary, social, ethical, and practical aspects of living vegan; she is an award-winning author of 7 books, and an acclaimed speaker with over 16 years of podcasting. Colleen joins Katie Kurpanek, Eco-Living Coach and Podcast Host, to break down the social barriers and fears that often keep us from living in full alignment with the compassion we have at our core. These social aspects are usually the determining factors as to whether or not someone becomes vegan / stays vegan, so it feels right to be wrapping up our series on veganism with this interview.  If you want to learn how to find your voice and become empowered enough to use it with confidence, even beyond the "vegan" conversation -- this episode is for you!Contact Info for Colleen Patrick-Goudreau:Colleen's website with books, vegan cooking classes, international vegan trips, podcasts, blogs, videos and more! Her 30-Day Vegan ChallengeColleen's 2 acclaimed podcasts (running for over 16 years)Books by Colleen Patrick-GoudreauAdditional Resources:Diet for a New America book by John RobbinsSlaughterhouse book by Gail A. Reconnecting with Nature & Our Core Dharma (w/ Dr. Sailesh Rao)
"When our actions don't match our words, we wound our souls."  Dr. Sailesh Rao, world-renowned systems engineer specialist, executive producer, speaker and author, joins Katie Kurpanek, Eco-Living Coach and Podcast Host, to recognize our place of belonging within nature -- exactly as we are. The Vegan Experience Across Cultures & Families, w/ Jen Rivera Bell & Ashley Renne Nsonwu

The Vegan Experience Across Cultures & Families, w/ Jen Rivera Bell & Ashley Renne Nsonwu
Is it ethical to push for a plant-based / vegan world? Is the modern vegan movement dismissing entire people groups and cultures? What is "white veganism" and how does this often differ from vegans within the BIPOC community? How can we push for less animal consumption without addressing the food disparities within our broken systems? Jen Rivera Bell and Ashley Renne Nsonwu are 2 vegan mamas, social media influencers, and strong advocates for intersectionality within sustainable living and policy change. They join Katie Kurpanek, Eco-Living Coach and Podcast Host, to share their personal experiences being vegan, how it's impacted their experience and perspectives on food, cultures, and family traditions, and also the vast disparities and inequities in our food distribution systems that must be addressed. You won't want to miss a moment of this conversation, it's so eye-opening and inspiring. Many topics are addressed and we only had an hour to share as much as we could, so please see below for more resources if you're interested to learn more.Contact Info for our guests:Jen Rivera BellWebsiteInstagramYouTube ChannelKids' Storytime PodcastAshley Renne NsonwuWebsiteInstagramPinterestYouTube ChannelBasic A$$ Vegan digital cookbookSmart Healthy Green Living seriesAdditional Resources:Coalition for Healthy School Food (non-profit)Vegan Baby-Led Weaning Facebook GroupReligion and Colonization researchWhite Supremacy within the vegan movement (IG post from @queerbrownvegan)-------This show is brought to you by listener support, and I'm sending a huge shout-out to these patrons for making it happen: Elizabeth R, Nancy K, Sarah W, Jodi S, Julia B, Liliana S, Karyn W, Detlef K, and Kelly K!To become a patron and receive all the perks of this community, visit www.patreon.com/allthingssustainable and join for as low as $3/month!
