King's Day, or Konningsdag, is a Dutch national holiday in celebration of King Willem Alexander's birthday. With orange being Holland's national colour, the sale of orange-hued fashion, makeup and fancy dress items go through the roof. The population of Amsterdam typically doubles during the festivities, as tourists book tickets for festivals and parties.
In our latest episode, our host Avielle interviews Benjamin, one of our Dutch LIMEs (Local In-Market Experts), who tells us all about the goings-on of a traditional King's Day. He explains the cultural significance of the colour orange, plus how brands can celebrate The Netherlands in their international marketing. Finally, we expand upon the Dutch untranslatable word 'Voorpret' in our Lost in Localisation segment.
