The Tuesday before last, I woke up with a searing pain in my left leg that felt like a hot, jagged scalpel was being dragged from the bottom of my mid-thigh, across the inside of my knee, down my calf and to my ankle.

As it turns out, I ended up in the ER with a potentially life-threatening illness. Here's what happened...
