An Interesting English Listening Practice Lesson About Climate Change Ep 488
In this English listening practice lesson, I have recorded a topic which is about climate change and the recent COP 26 climate conference that was hosted in Glasgow in Scotland by the UK government. Making interesting English lessons is important. Keeping you focused and engaged in the content you need to learn to improve your English skills is half the battle when learning a new language. In this lesson, you will hear lots of  English vocabulary, idioms, phrases and British culture and views, so jump in and start listening now. This lesson will help you improve your English language listening skills. ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-lessons-listening-practice-climate/ The  COP26 was a two week UN-sponsored international conference held in the  Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, UK. COP stands for ‘Conference of the  Parties’ this is a term used by the United Nations Climate Change which  is used to refer to meetings held annually during its Convention period.  The conference seeks to reduce global warming to well below 2 degrees  Celsius, aiming for 1.5 degrees if possible. With important countries not attending the event, and some important world leaders sleeping during presentations,  ask yourself, are we taking these problems seriously any more? Even the  event’s name suggests we have genuine problems agreeing to make changes  collectively. We are in the 26th meeting and we still don’t have a  common world agreement dealing with the key issue of temperature rises. Not only can you practice listening to natural, conversational English being used in real-life situations,  talking about real-world events. You can also read along and look up  difficult vocabulary at the same time using our free PDF transcript for every audio lesson.  If you’re an English language learner and want to bring your listening  skills up a notch, you’re in the right place. She is Pregnant! How To Express Your Joy Using The English Grammar Of Exclamations Ep 487
Today’s lesson is about the English grammar of exclamations, and the language used in expressing emotions. The  grammar of exclamations can get complicated because there are different  kinds of exclamations, each with specific rules on how to use them. In  this lesson, you will learn specific exclamations to talk about how you  feel in response to hearing some news someone has just told you. To keep you on your toes, we have a quiz at the end of the podcast where you can practice what you’ve learned. Let's learn the English grammar of exclamations! ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-learn-grammar-exclamations/ Whenever  I hear the word ‘Exclamation’, I think of something that is exciting,  happy or sad. The general idea behind an exclamation is to express your  emotions in reaction to an event or news. Although it’s easy in today’s  use of English online to slip into acronyms like LOL! or even swearing  to express your emotions, we won’t be doing that in our lesson. In this  lesson, we give you a range of exclamations which you can use to safely express your feelings, appropriate for any English conversation. Enjoy today’s podcast and make sure you practice what you’ve learned by repeat listening to  the lesson. You don’t have to listen to the same podcast over and over,  although you could. It’s best to listen to a lesson, then maybe the next  day listen again. If you feel you’ve remembered most of what you’ve  heard, then come back and listen to the lesson again in a week. We call  this type of learning spaced repetition learning. You can do this will  multiple podcast lessons at the same time. So when you are not repeat  listening to one, you can repeat listen to another. We  know that this type of spaced repetition learning encourages our brains  to take notice of what we are trying to learn and improves the  likelihood of this type of information being stored in our longer term  memory. Which is exactly what we want for language learning, which needs  automatic recall from long-term language memory. I’m often asked,  “How many times do I need to listen?” well it’s always going to be  different for every language learner. That said, I would recommend that  you need to hear the word or phrase you are listening to a minimum of 20  times spaced out over time. So, for example, let’s say a phrase “What a  disaster!” appears 5 times in a lesson. To hear it 20 times, you will  need to listen to the lesson 4 times spread out over approximately 10  days. Remember, it’s not an exact science, so don’t get stuck on the statistics. Just plan for some repeat listening and aim to listen to key phrases, pronunciations, vocabulary etc. a minimum of 20 times. How Your Brain Grows With English Listening Practice Ep 486
In today’s English listening practice we learn about ordinary people learning huge amounts of information, so  much information they actually grow the size of their brains doing it.  Along the way you will learn about London taxis and British culture.  Listening to everyday English phrases, vocabulary, grammar will help  improve your English listening comprehension skills. English Listening Practice Will Change Your Brain ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-listening-practice-grow-your-brain/ Your brain is amazing. It’s the most complex object in the known universe, containing around 100 billion neurons, each of which can connect to thousands of other neurons. Our brains are malleable - meaning they grow and change based on what we do with them.  Developing listening skills by listening to everyday English phrases,  vocabulary, grammar will help improve your English listening  comprehension skills. Your  brain can keep changing throughout your life. Think of your brain as a  muscle. If you exercise your brain, it will grow bigger and stronger.  You can think of learning a new language, like English, as going to the  brain gym and working out. As with any skill, it takes a little time and  repeat practice, but you can and will grow your brain as you learn to speak English. All of our English listening lessons are designed to help you with learning and memorising English  vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and more in a fun and easy way. We  design our lessons this way because we know that most people can  maintain focused listening for about 10-15 minutes. That means you  really pay attention to what is being said and how it is said. We know  that information given as stories, with lots of context, helps people  with storing information in the brain. We know that spaced repetition is  a very efficient way of keeping new information stored in your brain’s  longer term memory. Giving you English lessons in the way that we do is no accident. We have a reason for keeping our English lessons typically 2000 words long, with about 500-600 unique English words in each lesson. Our approach to learning to speak English is popular because it works. The science behind the lessons is invisible. All you need to do is find the time to listen and learn. English Idioms For Easy: Easy To Learn Easy To Remember Ep 482
We use English idioms every day. And we use them in big ways and small ways, for fun and for serious meanings. For example, we can say that we’re up to our ears in work,  meaning we’re very busy and it’s hard to find time to do anything else.  Let’s explore and play with some different English idioms for easy! Commonly Used English Idioms For Easy ✔ Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-idioms-for-easy/ A  few words of explanation about the way we approach learning idioms.  Idioms in English can be very confusing for language learners. There are  a lot of English idioms, most of which you would never  hear or use in an English conversation in 2021. To make learning English  idioms as efficient as we can, we focus on the most common and useful  English idioms that originate from everyday speech. So you won’t find a  list of 500 idioms for ‘easy’ in this podcast. You will find the most  popular ones you are most likely to need to understand and use. The hardest portion of English, I must say it: Idioms. ⭐ Flula Borg, German Musician It's been a while since I did a podcast on idioms. What exactly is an idiom? An idiom is a phrase that has a  different meaning from the actual words used. For example "a piece of  cake", as opposed to saying that something was "easy" or that it "went  down like a lead balloon" meaning nobody liked the suggestion. If you  learn idioms in school, you probably learn boring ones that nobody uses.  We’re trying to help you by learning useful idioms that real people  actually use. If you want to talk like a native English speaker, then there is no way to avoid learning English idioms. As I prepared this podcast, it surprised me to see how many English idioms we use for easy, without even thinking about them. So I suggest you listen to this podcast for some new English idioms examples you can use in your everyday English conversations. How To Move From Understanding English To Speaking English With Listening Practice Ep 479
Make The Transition To Actually Being Able To Speak English With Listening Practice ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-listening-practice-how-to-speak-english/ The best way to learn to speak English is through listening to English speakers, English comprehension, and more English listening practice.  Today, we look at the problems with traditional language classes, and why learning a new language is not what it should be. Most language  learning programs are so old-fashioned they should wear top hats and carry walking sticks. Our approach to language learning is a much better way. Learning  to speaking English is not nearly as easy as it should be. The way most  people currently learn English as a foreign language is essentially you  listen to a teacher talking, then practice using what you’ve learnt in a  classroom environment. The problem with this approach is that it’s very  slow, and limited - going to a class once a week for few hours can only  help you improve so much. Most language students won’t learn to speak  English at all, let alone fluently, using this approach. What  if there was a better way? What if you could learn from real life  conversations where you don’t have to concentrate on speaking, but can  just listen and learn? English as a second language doesn’t have to be slow and difficult.  Imagine if instead of learning a new language from the teacher lecturing  at the front of your classroom, you could learn, all day long, from  listening to native speakers who talk naturally and freely about their  own lives. We teach people how to improve their conversational  English listening and speaking, through listening to native English  speakers. It’s the best and fastest way of learning to speaking English.  Our way of learning to speak a new language is popular and gets  results. We help you with listening and comprehension with high quality,  free English lessons.  Lots and lots of repeated listening is the most important skill when  you want to speak a new language and we give you everything you need. Improve Your English Every Day With English Listening Practice Ep 473
English Listening Practice Join the discussion. Listen to learn. ✔Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-listening-practice-lorry-shortage/ Today we practice listening to English language being spoken by a native British English speaker. This  listening practice conversation is about supply issues in the UK. The  subject of this podcast lesson is not that important. The English  language you will learn is. Supply problems in the UK may be  important on Sept 2021, right now, especially if you're being  inconvenienced. However, in a few months, or years, this problem will  have come and gone. The point is the topic is interesting, but the real  value of listening to this is the English listening practice that helps  build up the language learning parts of your brain. When  something goes wrong, it's easy to jump to conclusions. You're angry  and you usually want the problem to just go away as quickly as possible.  It's interesting to see the news headlines, which are all about  failure, panic, etc. All of which encourage people to engage (usually  with advertising) at a superficial and selfish level. A  good truck driver needs discipline. Traffic, weather, eating, sleeping,  showering, fueling, getting work done on the truck; it takes a truck  driver a long time to learn how to jungle everything. ⭐ Joanna Dunham, Actress Politicians use the situation to punish those in power, the people in charge. People who did not want Brexit use it to say,  “I told you so!”. Lorry drivers use the problems to highlight long-term  problems with their industry. The worriers use the problems to  highlight how fragile a world we live in. The climate change people  shout about how we need to consume less. It's exhausting to listen to. In  reality, it's never one simple, obvious reason for the issues we have  in UK lorry based supply delivery today. I can think of at least 6 or 7  contributing factors to the problems we have right now in the UK, and I  know very little about the industry. When you live in a global "just in  time…" delivery world, it's very easy for things to go wrong. One  trend I've noticed in the UK, and in the western world in general, we  are not used to hardships. We have a pretty peaceful life much of the  time. Things typically work and we've all become used to it, so when  something breaks, we typically overreact. Who knows, I might be wrong,  and in a year we still have issues in the UK, but regardless, I can  guarantee that listening to this English language learning podcast will see something positive come from it.Learn more about our courses here: https://adeptenglish.com/language-courses/
