Our Editor's Take

The Travel Goals Podcast is a show for people who love adventure. The host of the program is Portia "Pip" Jones.

Pip has made a career out of traveling. The UK voice runs her own travel website, Pip and the City. Pip also contributes articles for National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and other travel publications. She has over 20 years of experience in the field. Pip especially loves to give advice to women traveling alone. She offers curated itineraries for many global destinations.

The Travel Goals Podcast offers different types of episodes. Some focus on a specific destination. In Iceland, Pip goes to the southern coast with a suggested itinerary, complete with where to stay and what to see. She takes listeners for a trek through the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. In Peru, Pip encounters the majestic Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. Her descriptions are vivid and her enthusiasm is infectious.

Other episodes focus on practical tips. The host speaks to experts who have great ideas on choosing the best bag for lightweight travel. They know how to avoid extra bag fees. One episode focuses on mishaps and what travelers' rights are when airlines mess up. Pip also explores the pros and cons of group travel.

The host also has a lot of advice for planning upcoming trips. She has ideas for the best ways to visit American National Parks. Accessing remote and isolated places also gets an episode. Pip covers traveling with dogs and making friends while on the road.

Listeners get encouragement to become stewards of the places they visit. Pip is conscious of travelers' impact on the world and seeks to mitigate that impact. Mitigation looks different in different places, but it is always at the fore.

People who are either traveling or planning their next trip will appreciate the Travel Goals Podcast. It's a great resource for people who thrive in new and unfamiliar environments.

This isn’t just any Halloween story—this is a spooky audio journey into the heart of the Emerald Isle, where the festival we now know as Halloween began over 2,000 years ago. Join us for an immersive, spine-tingling adventure through Ireland’s mystical myths, haunting folklore, and fascinating Samhain traditions.   In this special episode, we take you to County Meath, home to the Púca Festival, where history, fire, and feasting combine with the strange and mischievous spirits of the Celtic Otherworld. You’ll hear the crackle of ceremonial fires and feel the chill of ghost stories as we travel to Ireland’s Ancient East to uncover the secrets of Samhain, the festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year. Get ready for an epic Halloween experience! We’ll introduce you to the Púca, the shape-shifting creature of Celtic lore, who embodies the chaos and mystery of this bewitching season. The Púca Festival is not just about folklore; it’s a celebration of music, myth, food, and fire set against the backdrop of Ireland’s most historic places, from the towering Trim Castle to the ancient Hill of Ward, where the original Samhain fires were lit centuries ago. Recorded on location, we’ll take you behind the scenes of one of Ireland’s most brilliant and imaginative festivals. Along the way, we’ll share spooky stories, haunting legends, and our own chilling encounters as the veil between worlds thins.  This is more than just a history lesson—it’s a journey into a world where the past and the present meet, where the eerie traditions of Halloween still resonate in Ireland’s wild landscapes. Hiking the Atlas Mountains with Morocco's first female mountain guide

Hiking the Atlas Mountains with Morocco's first female mountain guide
Conquer towering peaks and rugged trails in The High Atlas Mountains with Morocco's first female mountain guide – Hafida Hdoubane. We take a deep dive into hiking trails, female mountain guiding and community tourism with Intrepid Travel – a group adventure travel company and the world’s largest travel B Corporation. Recorded on location, join us on an immersive audio adventure as we hike through the High Atlas mountain routes, meet Amazigh villagers and guides and learn more about how Hafida first became a mountain guide. Hafida is a trailblazer in the trekking community and became one of the first certified female mountain guides in 1994. She now leads trekking tours throughout the country, including Intrepid’s Women’s Expeditions.   At the time, most of the guides working in the Atlas Mountains were European and male, so Hafida’s entry into the hiking world was met with surprise and in some cases scepticism as Moroccan women were expected to stay at home and focus on raising a family. But Hafida decided to tread a different path and defy expectations.  From the wild Atlas mountains to Marrakech's historic medina, we meet the women who are shaking up Morocco's tourism industry and working hard to get more women into mountain and city guiding.  Thanks to Intrepid Travel for supporting this episode of the Travel Goals Podcast. Travel through the ages - why adventure isn't just for young people
Do you want to have more adventures but don't know where to begin, travel expert, author and YouTuber Lisa Niver is here to help! In this episode, Lisa discusses how you can make your travel dreams come true and have adventures through the ages, no matter your age or travel experience. Adventure travel has long been advertised with pictures of bright-eyed and wrinkle-free young travellers sporting heaving backpacks and tie-dye trousers, staying in $3-a-night hostels.  But that’s not the full picture, plenty of people travel throughout the decades and while their travel style might change, their love of the road never falters. Whether you’re fresh out of university, a nine to fiver, or about to enter retirement, adventure should be for everyone. If you’re considering broadening your travel horizons, setting out on your first travel trip, or wondering how to make friends on the road, then Lisa has some great advice for you.  Lisa is an award-winning travel expert who has explored 102 countries and six continents. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she worked on cruise ships for seven years and backpacked for three years in Asia. She has a huge YouTube and TikTok following and is the founder of the website WeSaidGoTravel which is read in 235 countries and was named #3 on Rise Global’s top 1,000 Travel Blogs.  Tune in and get ready to be inspired!  Huge thanks to our season 6 sponsors, Trip Mapper – a web and mobile app for travellers who love to design their own unforgettable travel experiences. But what about travelling to extremely challenging destinations, conflict areas and closed-off countries, is this even possible? How do you even begin planning an epic adventure to hard-to-reach places? This is where travel companies like Untamed Borders can help.   Formed in 2008 by professional fixers, supporting journalists wanting to reach often inaccessible and difficult areas, Untamed Borders specialises in travel to some of the most challenging and inaccessible countries on earth: from the Middle East to East Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
