Name That Baby
It's the morning after the night before where we won an award! Welcome to Club Podcast of the Year, It's All Cobblers To Me! Don't worry, we don't go on about it too much on this episode. Only kidding, of course we do! Hear how it all went down in London Town on Monday night and just how tightly he held onto the award all the way home on the train. Northampton Town 1-0 Leyton OrientThe Cobblers saw off Kenny Jackett's Orient despite being without John Guthrie, Sean McWilliams and a first half injury to Kion Etete. Max Dyche made his full League debut at the heart of the Cobblers defence and showed some great touches and composure. While at the other end, Sam Hoskins stole in to score what turned out to be the winner. PostbagThis week's email comes from Daniel Darwood who asks about the January transfer window. Send us your thoughts and comments to podcast@cobblerstome.com Around NTFCA whopping 97.67% of the votes cast in the football club's recent poll around their plans for the East Stand were in favour of the plans. A total of 2442 votes were cast. The Women's FA Cup game at Lye Town was postponed until 5th December with the home side's pitch being frozen and therefore unplayable. NTFC's offer to play the fixture in Northampton was declined and so the two sides will have to wait a week to find out who makes it through the the 3rd round. Also this weekend, the Under 18's will face Charlton Athletic at Sixfields in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup. The match kicks off at 1:30pm and it would be great to see a bumper crowd down at Sixfields to cheer on the future Cobblers stars. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers. Where It All Really Started
Old or young, we all agree that Northampton Town is really where it all started, Ivan. Bradford 1-1 Northampton TownIt's difficult to talk about the game at Valley Parade on Saturday without mentioning the performance of the referee. It's possibly the worst official we've had this season and it really wound Charles up. Still, after losing Kion Etete to a swing of the arm that Quest's TV pundit duo seem to think was nothing more than a natural movement, Mitch Pinnock sprinted the length of the pitch to open the scoring. Unfortunately, a second individual error in consecutive games by a Cobblers centre back allowed Charles Vernon to equalise and Jon Brady's side had to settle for a point. Ivan Toney Forgets Where He's FromAs if we weren't annoyed enough this weekend, Ivan Toney decided to forget all about his overhead kick at Dagenham and the time he spent at Sixfields as a youngster. In https://twitter.com/ivantoney24/status/1462160609441718283?s=21 (a Tweet posted after Brentford's 3-3 draw at Newcastle United), where he scored, Toney said: "Special moment today to return to where it all really started and see some old faces , even better to score but 3 points would of made it sweeter."Cheers Ivan. We miss you too. PostbagOff the back of Richard Hamley's email about his first game at the County Ground, Robert Salmons has been in touch with a real touch of kindness and class. Robert's found the original match day programme from that game back in 1965/66. Thank you for your email Robert! Tin Pot ClubsOn the Fan Club Slack this week, Gareth posed a fun question - What makes a club tinpot? Needless to say, if your an MK fan you probably shouldn't listen ;-p NTFC WomenNo game for the Women's team this weekend but this coming Sunday, the Cobblers travel to Stourbridge to take on Lye Town Ladies in the 2nd round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup. Good luck to the whole team and our sponsored player, Abbie Brewin. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers. Haribos Promised. Not Delivered
If Danny and Chessie wrote Trip Advisor reviews, they wouldn't not be pretty. Unless they're about award decision making panels of course! Bristol Rovers 2-1 Northampton TownThe Cobblers were hoping to get back on track after last week's FA Cup draw to Cambridge but relenquished their 4 game winning run with defeat to Joey Barton's Gas. Sam Hoskins scored a penalty to give the Cobblers a 1-0 lead at half time but two terrible moments of defending saw Rovers take all 3 points and knock the Cobblers down to 4th in the League Two table. The defeat prompts a discussion about whether, having found a successful formation, Jon Brady's squad lacks enough depth to be serious contenders for promotion. Ron FlowersThere was some sad news this week as former Cobblers player and manager, Ron Flowers passed away. None of us are old enough to remember him playing for Town but we send our best wishes to all his friends and family. PostbagA question of time comes from Fan Club Slacker, Michael this week. With another high amount of injury time minutes being played, is it time for the FA to introduce a 'stop clock'? NTFC WomenYet again the Women's side have done us proud! Yes, they've made it through to the 2nd round of the Women's FA Cup for the first time in our history. A 4-2 penalty win against Bedworth Ladies at Harpole Playing Fields was more than deserved after the Cobblers were held to a 2-2 draw after extra time. Our sponsored player, Abbie Brewin was named Player of the Match and provides us with some thoughts on the result for the pod. And thanks to listener, Nic Pentelow for providing us with live updates throughout the game. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers. Nominate It!
Northampton Town 2-2 Cambridge UnitedThe Cobblers were pegged back twice as Cambridge escaped with a replay in the FA Cup at Sixfields. Goals from Kion Etete and Paul Lewis helped give the atmosphere a true cup game vibe but Brady's Boys weren't quite able to hold on. Still, it's a positive result and another game without defeat to keep the run going for the first team. The East StandPerhaps we should be coming up with a new name for this flipping side of the stadium. The words East and Stand have such a negative connotation these days but there was good news this week! NTFC confirmed that a deal to further the progress on the completion of the stand has been agreed with West Northants Council in principal and a meeting of WNC in December should ratify the agreement. All we need now is to get the Dean Peer Corridor named officially! Other NewsThe Cobblers asked the fans to vote on which home shirt should be worn next season, the club's 125th, last week. The winner was an updated version of the 86/87, pinstripe shirt that Graham Carr's side romped to the Division 4 league title in. A result that both Danny and Charles agree with. Head of Recruitment, Martin Foyle left the club this week to take up a dual recruitment and coaching role at Morecambe FC. We wish Martin all the best. The Under 18's have progressed to the 2nd round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-0 victory over Kings Lynn. Another Cobblers side doing well! Northampton Town Women "How many did they score this week?" we hear you ask. Well the answer is 7 (SEVEN)! Just how amazing are this team? Our Abbie came off the bench to grab a goal too. Happy days. PostbagRichard Hamley has been in touch to tell us about his first game watching the Cobblers at the County Ground. Spoiler alert, it involved some very famous English players. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers. The Paul Lewis Show
Northampton Town 3-0 Carlisle UnitedThe Cobblers are on a roll after yet another win. This time at home to the Cumbrians of Carlisle United. Paul Lewis bagged a hat-trick to send Charles and the rest of his doubters into a spin. Although his gif game could do with improvement. Ali Koiki had a great defensive display but Azza McGazza limped off with an injury that he's apparently been playing with since the defeat to Sutton United. Dominic Revan came on to deputise well and helped the Cobblers defence to their 4th clean sheet in a row. With PostbagWe've had lots of messages again sent in to us at https://my.captivate.fm/twitter.com/CobblersToMe (@CobblersToMe) on Twitter and podcast@cobblerstome.com this week. Fan Club member, Malcolm Butler wins this week's Star Letter for a lovely, stat based ditty. Do keep those coming! NTFC WomenNo action for the 1st team this week due to pesky water hogs on the pitch but the development side ran out 13-1 winners! Podcast NewsOur Fan Club has a brand new weekly reward for all members. Danny's League 2 Round-Up is 10 minutes of audio looking back over the weekend basement division action and will be released every Monday afternoon. Trounce Them In The Playground
Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Northampton TownHaving beaten Stevenage at Sixfields in midweek, the Cobblers made the journey up to the North West to face a Tranmere side who sat 5th in the table and held the record for the most clean sheets in the entirety of English professional football this season. After 45 minutes of sizing each other up, The Cobblers came out of the traps with a purpose after half time and quickly seized the initiative through a Kion Etete strike before Paul Lewis was felled by Tranmere's keeper in the box and Sam Hoskins made it two from the penalty spot. Charles' Match Day ExperienceBeing a fairly local game, our Charles made the journey to the Wirral and provided us with some insight that those following on the radio won't have seen. Firstly, Etete's goal was a direct result of what the Cobblers' front four were practicing during the warm up. Ball goes out wide to Pinnock, cross is hit early into the box and Etete meets it at pace. Then there is the legend that is Adam Morton scoring in front of the travelling Northampton fans to much fanfare. Off the pitch there was noticeable attempts to get the fans to the stadium early with a supporters' Trust ran marquee (or fan park as they called it) outside the club shop that was hosting an Oktoberfest beer festival. With the resurrection of The New Hotel End team on social media this weekend, maybe something like this would be a good starting point? PostbagThanks to everyone for answering our call to arms last week and getting in touch after a win and not just when we lose. We had lots of messages sent to us at @CobblersToMe on Twitter and a couple of emails too. Our main email this week comes from Robert Salmons about the future of the match day football programme. NTFC Women Win In The FA CupThe women's team did us proud once more by overcoming Tamworth Women to reach the 1st Round proper of the Women's FA Cup. The game finished 1-0 with the goal coming from It's All Cobblers To Me sponsored player, Abbie Brewin! We are so proud of the whole team but especially our Abbie. The next game for NTFC Women is on Sunday at Harpole Playing Fields in the league against Lincoln United WFC. Please do go and support the team if you can. Meanwhile, the Cobblers have been drawn at home to National league side Bedworth United Ladies in the 1st round. Surely this needs to be a Sixfields special?! Cobblers NewsElsewhere this week: Congratulations to Tom Cliffe for winning the election for the supporters representative position on the NTFC board. Walter Tull was inducted into the National Football Museum's Hall Of Fame. The New Hotel End project team have become active once more on Twitter by explaining what it is they're looking to do and how they will need the help and backing of both the football club and the NTFC Supporters' Trust. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers. 154 Phases From Kick Off
How many phases have to be played after a set piece for a goal to be considered as having come from open play? All the important questions asked on this week's podcast for fans of Northampton Town. Northampton Town 2-0 Mansfield TownJon Brady's Northampton got back to winning ways by beating struggling Mansfield Town on Saturday and that means the podcast team are in a jubilant mood. From a terrible kick off to having a penalty decision overturned, you'd think that Mansfield had caught a terrible case of Cobblers-itis on Saturday. Usually we'd expect a side in poor form to rock up at Sixfields and turn their season around but thankfully the Stags hadn't read that particular script. Goals from open play were scored too as Aaron McGowan and Fraser Horsfield both found the net at least two phases after a throw-in. Yes, we're claiming that! And despite a couple of chances for Nigel Clough's side, the Cobblers held firm and moved upto 8th in League Two. FA Cup 1st Round DrawThe Cobblers were drawn at home to League One Cambridge United during Sunday's FA Cup 1st Round draw, live on ITV. A thrilled Kelly Smith and Wes Morgan picking a right old satsuma of a tie to be played the first weekend in November. PostbagMessages from Brick Cobbler and Northampton Town Turkey were gratefully received this week. It's amazing how empty the postbag can be after a win compared to last week's when it was positively bulging! Northampton Town Women 6-1 Kettering Town WomenThe Cobblers Women continued their fine form this season on Sunday afternoon. Kettering Town Women were dispatched in the Northamptonshire FA Women's Cup and our very own sponsored player, Abbie Brewin was player of the match with two assists. _____ Hosted by Charles Commins, Chessie Coleman, Neil Egerton-Scott and Danny Brothers.
