Our Editor's Take

Black Gals Livin' is a podcast about pop culture and mental health. The hosts of the UK-based show are best friends Victoria (Vic) Sanusi and Jasmine (Jas) Braithwaite.

Podcast host Vic is a journalist and content creator. She has conducted social media campaigns for several brands. She also creates short videos focused on the Black experience. Black Gals Livin' cohost Jas is more mysterious. She prefers to keep her public and private lives separate.

Every week, Vic and Jas sit down to talk about what they've been up to. Vic gives a detailed account of the Beyoncé concert she attended. Jas confesses she's suffering from FOMO and wants to go party in Malta. They compare which product makes their hair feel softest. They discuss the ethics of influencers promoting products they don't use. They recap the latest episode of Love Island. If there's something they want to discuss on their podcast, they will-no matter the topic.

The Black Gals Livin' cohosts also share how world events affect people like them. They discuss the bad vibes in England. The hosts call for an end to price inflation for concert tickets. Vic confesses to money anxiety as a result of runaway inflation.

Listeners may appreciate the segment titled "Dilemmas." People write in with problems, but also confessions and stories. Vic and Jas read the dilemma and then give advice. They're not mental health professionals. But they don't claim to be. They give the type of advice a person would hear from a best friend who wants the best for them. When a listener writes in to share her severe anxiety, the cohosts cheer her on. They empathize with a listener with impostor syndrome and share their own struggles.

The Black Gals Livin' podcast offers a glimpse into the lives of young, Black, professional women living in London. They're smart and sassy. They're obsessed with pop culture and makeup. They try to have as much fun as possible. Listeners can join in on the fun here each week.
