#43 Elaine Rodriguez, Rachel Kuhlen, Susan Sotnick - 'Our Kabbalah Experience: A Journey to Spiritual Growth' (Spiritual Pillar)
Today I bring you a collaborative conversation with my friends Rachel Kuhlen, Susan Sotnick and Elaine Rodriguez as we share our experiences and learnings from studying and practicing Kabbalah. In season 1, I was fortunate to have Kabbalistic Astrologer Danielle Yardeni as guest. Before we recorded her episode, Danielle did my star chart reading and introduced me to Kabbalistic philosophy. The experience was profound and it piqued my interest into learning more about Kabbalah. Fast forward nearly 2 years and I find out that several of my friends have also been studying Kabbalah, so I got all of us together to talk about how our lives have been impacted since implementing the practices and concepts into our daily lives. In this conversation, we share what Kabbalah is and the core tenets, some of the basic concepts, why Kabbalah appealed to us, and we all share specific examples of the ways that it has positively transformed us and our lives. This episode is under the spiritual pillar of holistic wellbeing as it mainly relates to the component of having a connection to something greater than ourselves but, as you will hear, kabbalah also teaches us a lot about our individual purpose and the meaning of our life which is the second component of the spiritual pillar. We also discuss what ‘spirituality’ means for each of us and while there are differences in our definitions, the common thread is that it is about connection….to self, to each other, and to something greater than us, which deepens our belief that everything is connected in this universe. One of the most wonderful things about Kabbalah is that it is ultimately a very practical approach to being a better version of yourself and for living a fulfilling and meaningful life. #41 Wide Open Aperture - The Loneliness Epidemic, Meaningful Connections, Supercommunicators, Integrity/Justice/Fairness
Hey guys welcome back to a special episode of Wide Open Aperture. We had originally planned to talk about the loneliness epidemic in episode 1, but if you have listened to the previous episodes of WOA you know that we tend to be a wee bit long winded. So Brian and I decided to do a special episode just dedicated to this topic. As per usual, we go off on some tangents but the main focus is our thoughts on what the surgeon general has called a loneliness epidemic in America. We look at loneliness from a very personal lens - reflecting on our dad’s life and our recognition of his experience of feeling lonely, especially in the last several years of his life. Many times we do not get the opportunity to have the time and/or a person that we can go through this process with so I am grateful that Brian and I could do this and that we chose to do this episode.  We both saw very different aspects of our dad and while this episode may seem like we are focused on his imperfections that appeared to foster his loneliness it comes from a place of respect and love and appreciation for the lessons we have learned from him in life and in death. At Widening Your Aperture, community and connection are 2 foundational core values so I think it is so important for us to be talking about this topic more than ever. If you are experiencing loneliness I hope that this episode will offer you some support, ideas on ways you can find more connection and community in your life and, as always, we are here for you via our email askwoa@wideningyouraperture.com. There is a link for the email in the show notes for quick and easy access. Also, we will be doing a special episode in a few weeks dedicated to answering all of the AMA questions you have sent in. #40 Scott Nelson - 'The Art of Balancing Life's Memories and Financial Goals' (Financial Pillar)
Hi, I’m Scott and I’m the founder of Thrive Wealth Strategies, a fee only financial planning practice dedicated to helping you reach your financial goals so you and your family can enjoy a happy, comfortable life. Here’s a little bit of my story, why I started this site, who it’s for, how you can get involved, and why I am a financial advisor Boston trusts. Back in 2014, when me and my wife, Jen, found out we were having our first boy, my wheels really started spinning. Of course, we were overjoyed! But also, as a financial planner in Boston, ALL of the “what if” scenarios started running through my head.Of course, some things have changed along the way. For instance, we’ve added two more boys, and a baby girl in 2022! So we’ve had to adjust the plan from time to time. But the whole way through, I’ve been able to conquer my fears by knowing that there is always a thorough plan that has me and my family covered. The reason I formed Thrive is so that you can feel the exact same way about your family’s future. Life is full of enough stress. The job. Family. Staying healthy. The list goes on. Money shouldn’t be something else you’re worried about. So let Thrive help you and your family thrive. We will help you work towards your financial goals while you handle everything else. Now that you’ve heard my story, here’s a little bit more about me. I’ve been a registered financial planner and advisor since 1999 and a licensed Medicare specialist through AARP and Thrive Medicare Strategies since 2005.Those 4 children I told you about? They are now 8 (Finn), 6 (Rhys), 1 (Boden) and 4 months (Isla). As I sought ways to get involved in their lives from an early age, I served as the inaugural Dad’s Liaison on the board of the Newburyport Mother’s Club. The organization has now expanded into the Greater Newburyport Family Club, and I’ve been their Vice President for two years now.I’m a firm believer in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and love to spend time with my wife and kids. I love to go on adventures with my family, whether it’s skiing, biking to the beach, or a strenuous hike near the pathways around our home. I can often be found chasing my boys on mud races and other activities they’re involved in.Connect with Scott:WebsiteLinkedInYouTubeResources mentioned in this episode:The Un-Retire BlogExample of Scott's 1-page financial planTo sign up for The Widening Your Aperture Newsletter:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/mediaTo email us for the Wide Open Aperture AMA episodes:askWOA@wideningyouraperture.comTo email Kristen with questions from solo episodes:kristen.henry@wideningyouraperture.comContact Kristen to set up a FREE 30 minute discovery call to explore 1:1 coaching options:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/welcome#contactLink to YouTube Channel for video episodes:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDgySiVcsbDKNO5_VewnZzQConnect on Social Media:InstagramFacebookLinkedIn

#31 SOLO - 'A Complete Guide on Conducting a Personal Yearly Review'
28-12-2023
#31 SOLO - 'A Complete Guide on Conducting a Personal Yearly Review'
Hi friends! Another year has come and gone. Hard to believe, right?! While it may seem arbitrary, the end of the calendar year presents us with an opportunity to reflect on the past year and plan for the year ahead. It can be easy to forego the reflecting on the past year and just focus on the year to come but failure to reflect will eventually manifest as failure to grow. This year I decided to do a Personal Yearly Review instead of the typical new years resolutions. When it comes to resolutions, we’ve all made them and we’ve all failed to achieve them. The sheer number of times I have resolved to take up a regular exercise routine, to stop procrastinating, or to stop being a member of hustle culture - and failed miserably - it’s embarrassing. New Year’s resolutions often have at least one of the following problems:- They are vague, non-specific goals like “get fit”, “be nicer to people”, or “read more books”- They tend to be pessimistic and are rooted in self-criticism and admonishment for still not doing that thing you always wanted to do or worse, felt you should do. - They tend to be too big or too numerous - “I’m committing to these 10 big, vague, life-changing things and I’m starting them all on January 1st”. This me friends is an award winning recipe for failure.- Many times they are not your highest priority and therefore fall to the wayside too easily. The start of a new year is useful. There tends to be a positive ‘change can happen’ vibe in the atmosphere. A new year. A clean slate. A time to make some changes and shift the focus to the goals and intentions that really matter most to you. So let’s do that, but let’s do it right.I have created a Personal Yearly Review workbook that is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate your doing your own review with ease.Lastly, I think it is important to share why I decided to create this guide. In the past, I have gone into the new year one of two ways: with resolutions that ALWAYS failed to stick or just ‘winging it’ and just hoping for the best. Needless to say, neither approach has served me well. I believe the PYR allows us to step into the new year more informed, with intentionality and with thought-out plans in place to help us achieve our goals, build new habits and be the person we want to be. Also, with my Dad passing this year, I was reminded that our days on this planet are too precious not to fill them with the people, activities and things nourish us the most. Every year gives us 8,760 hours - we must plan and prioritize the upcoming year so that we can maximize as many of those hours as possible. Now it’s time for you to do the work! Here is a link to download the Personal Yearly Review Workbook. Carve out a couple quiet hours over the next few days to do it. To sign up for The Widening Your Aperture Newsletter:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/mediaTo email us for the Wide Open Aperture AMA episodes:askWOA@wideningyouraperture.comTo email Kristen with questions from solo episodes:kristen.henry@wideningyouraperture.comContact Kristen to set up a FREE 30 minute discovery call to explore 1:1 coaching options:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/welcome#contactLink to YouTube Channel for video episodes:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDgySiVcsbDKNO5_VewnZzQConnect on Social Media:InstagramFacebookLinkedIn

#29 SOLO - 'How To Create Change in Your Life Using Visioning and the AIM SMART Process'

#29 SOLO - 'How To Create Change in Your Life Using Visioning and the AIM SMART Process'
Hey friends, welcome to this week’s solo episode! In today’s episode I am going to share how to make lasting, sustainable changes in your life by creating a clear vision and then setting AIM SMART goals . In previous episodes, you defined your core values and identified the areas of your life that you want to increase your satisfaction in. This is the first phase, which I call the Introspection phase, of the 4-part framework I use with my coaching clients. This weeks episode is the second phase, which I call the Shift phase, where you learn how to create AIM SMART goals and set intentions that will create internal shifts and empower you to have agency in generating holistic wellbeing and increasing your overall life satisfaction. In the last solo episode I talked about visioning - looking at the ways your life would be different if you were to make a change in the pillar or pillars you chose to work on. Let’s expand on this a little more. Often when we go to set goals, we don’t have a clear picture in mind of what the end result will be and this makes it difficult to determine how to get there. There is a saying “If you don’t know what the destination is, and path will get you there’. This can cause us to get stuck because of a fear of the unknown.Accountability - find someone that you can share your goal with and ask them to hold you accountable, this will help to ensure your success! Let them know how you want to be held accountable and what you will need from them to be successful in reaching your goal. Now it’s time for you to do the work! Write down the steps of the AIM SMART process and carve out some time to do create your vision and complete the goal setting/action plan process. A link to my AIM SMART worksheet will be provided in this weeks Widening Your Aperture Newsletter. If you haven’t signed up yet, there is a link in the show notes! If you have questions about any of the material covered in todays episode send me a DM on IG, FB or linked in or shoot me an email at Kristen.henry@wideningyouraperture.com. #27 Welcome to Wide Open Aperture
Hey guys! I want to welcome you to the first episode of a new format  I am adding to the Widening Your Aperture Podcast. It’s called Wide Open Aperture and I’ve enlisted my brother Brian to co-host. I anticipate this will be an ongoing monthly series where we will discuss random relevant topics, share the impactful and sometimes controversial podcast episodes and documentaries we have listened to and watched, share what is going on in our worlds as well as the wisdom we have received from others all from the lens of our shared, weird sense of humor. This new format also serves an ask-me-anything opportunity for listeners. If you have a question, problem, or decision you’re trying to make and you would like us to weigh in from our different perspectives, you can send an email to askwoa@wideningyouraperture.com.Now, to introduce my cohost. Brian is my older brother, a husband, a father, a dog dad, an expert horticulturist, a psychonaut, a CT technologist and a burgeoning massage therapist who shares my curiosity in understanding why we do what we do and why humans in general do what they do. #25 SOLO - ‘What it Means to "Meet Yourself Where You Are" + How To Do It'

#25 SOLO - ‘What it Means to "Meet Yourself Where You Are" + How To Do It'
In today’s episode I am going to share what it means to meet yourself where you are and how to accomplish this. This weeks episode is a bit shorter because it will directly tie in to next weeks episode and I wanted to make each steps small and achievable. Plus, the work you’ll do this week will take some time to complete. Here is a simple metaphor for the work we will be doing the next few weeks in the solo episodes. Let’s say youre going on a journey.  Before you start out on the journey there are a couple of important details you need to know before you go. First, you have to know where you are starting from (where am I right now). Next, you have to know what your destination is (where do I want to be). Then you have to create a  path to follow (how am I going to get to the destination). Then before you set out you need to make sure you have your compass to guide you along the way. Last week I dove into Core Values which is the compass you will use on your journey. In this weeks solo episode you will learn how to meet yourself where you are right now so you know where you are starting your journey from. I will talk about this process today and I will be sharing a resource with you that will help you determine where you are right now (your starting point). Then next week we will talk about how to determine where you want to go (your destination) and how to create your path so you know the exact steps you are going to take to get to your destination. The metaphor illustrates the process I use with my coaching clients: defining your core values, doing a whole life review of all 8 pillars to evaluate your satisfaction in each pillar currently and identifying the pillars that you want to improve your satisfaction in, then creating AIM SMART goals to identify what you believe will bring you more satisfaction in your pillar(s) of choice (AIM GOAL) and the exact steps that will get you there (SMART GOALS). If you did the work on Core Values last week then you already have your compass! Let’s talk about how to meet yourself where you are and clarify your starting point.Meeting yourself where you are means acknowledging what is currently present in your life and without judgement compassionately taking inventory of your feelings and level of satisfaction in all the areas of your life. Today we will discuss each pillar and its components and I will walk you through an evaluation process so you can clearly identify the pillar or pillars that you can work to improve your satisfaction in. Which ultimately will begin to increase your overall satisfaction in life.Meet Yourself Where You Are Worksheet - Self-Evaluation of Personal Satisfaction in the 8 Pillars of Holistic Wellbeing To sign up for The Widening Your Aperture Newsletter:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/mediaTo email us for the Wide Open Aperture AMA episodes:askWOA@wideningyouraperture.comTo email Kristen with questions from solo episodes:kristen.henry@wideningyouraperture.comContact Kristen to set up a FREE 30 minute discovery call to explore 1:1 coaching options:https://www.wideningyouraperture.com/welcome#contactLink to YouTube Channel for video episodes:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDgySiVcsbDKNO5_VewnZzQConnect on Social Media:InstagramFacebookLinkedIn
