Our Editor's Take

Guys Next Door is a podcast that amplifies the voices of Black millennial men. Mack Wilds, Mouse Jones, and FlyRy started it to share their life experiences. They wanted to create a platform to discuss the way they operate in the world and their inner thoughts. By doing so, the hosts hope to connect people from different backgrounds.

For instance, young white men can learn more about what it means to be Black on a dating app. Women can hear about men's likes and dislikes in the bedroom and understand why they feel that way. The podcast hosts talk a lot about sex, but they don't do it to shock people. They want to facilitate honest conversations that will lead to better relationships. Other topics include grief, workplace diversity, mental health, and more.

The hosts of Guys Next Door all have careers in the entertainment industry. Mack is a songwriter, music producer, and actor. Some people might recognize him from his acting roles on The Wire and 90210. He also released two studio albums. Mouse is a prolific media personality. He hosts events, cohosted The He-Man Woman Haters Club podcast, and interviewed celebrities like Kevin Hart. FlyRy has worked as a music A&R executive for several years. He is also a serial entrepreneur and owns the Yacht Club Company and ECOGAVE.

The podcast gives the trio a place to talk about their successes and the challenges they had along the way. They also invite other Black men to share their upbringing, struggles, and accomplishments.

As much as Guys Next Door presents the Black experience in the US, much of it focuses on relationships. Mack, Mouse, and FlyRy discuss dating with white women and how others react to it. The hosts talk about the etiquette behind sending nude pictures. There are conversations regarding insecurities in a romantic setting.

Mack, Mouse, and FlyRy enjoy revealing funny or embarrassing anecdotes from their personal lives. By being completely open and vulnerable, they hope to encourage important conversations. New episodes of Guys Next Door release a few times per month.
