In celebration of NAIDOC week we are sharing the story of one of the most incredible First Nations women ~ Evonne Goolagong Cawley. Evonne is a Wiradjuri woman and one of the most incredible sports women of our time. She has been Australian of the Year and Australian Sportsman of the Year. Wimbledon and Grand Slam champion. We have an extra special ‘In Her Words’ episode for you this week Legends.  Jamila Rizvi was in our top three dream guests and when she agreed to be a part of our little podcast we were ecstatic. Jamila is a mother and wife, a best-selling author, a public speaker, podcast presenter, a brain tumour survivor and a disability and gender equality advocate.  She sat down with us (virtually... in the cupboard) for a very candid and heartfelt discussion about her own life and the women who inspire her. This week Chole takes us on an emotional roller coaster with the incredible story of Dr Kalpana Chawla. Dr Chawla was the first woman of Indian descent to fly in space, and was a skilled and accomplished astronaut. Her final space mission was aboard the ill-fated Columbia Space Shuttle. Dr Kalpana Chawla and her 6 fellow crew members would not survive the flight. Hers is an incredible determination of determination, ambition and the pursuit of childhood dreams. Chole recommended skincare brand Frank Bod, which has sorted her skin out like a real grown up with a proper skin care routine. She also recommended an episode of Ahn’s Brush With Fame, with Missy Higgins. Jussy recommends the new Disney movie Cruella, after taking her kids to see it. Penny was the first woman to become Leader of the Government in the Senate, the first woman Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and the first openly gay Australian female politician.  It has been quite the journey, so buckle up as Jussy shares her incredible story with us this week. This week we speak to the two legendary women behind the fantastic new podcast – Old Boys Club – all about breaking down Australian politics and making it accessible and interesting for people who are usually overlooked by the conversation. We talked about the challenges of reporting on politics as women in a male dominated field, gender disparity at play in both politics and journalism and took a deep dive into a story that has stuck with us as one of the biggest political issues at the moment. Christine Blasey Ford is an American professor of psychology at Palo Alto University and a research psychologist at the Stanford University School of Medicine.    She is a well published academic, mother and sexual assault survivor. Annette Kellerman, Australian born championship swimmer, cliff diver, vaudeville performer and movie star of the Victorian era is the story we unpack this week. Bessie Coleman was a trailblazer of the Aviation industry. Before Amelia Earhart was a household name, Bessie was defying the odds as the first African American Woman to become a pilot, and then went on to be a stunt pilot. Bessie’s courage and determination to succeed saw her achieve greatness despite the racism and discrimination she faced to get there. Not only was she enormously successful, she was always looking out for her community and was inspired to do what she could to help the next ranks of African American pilots to take to the skies.
