Our Editor's Take

Suffer the Little Children is a true crime podcast with a specific focus. The show explores cases of child abuse and highlights the people who failed those kids. It examines the systems designed to protect children and showcases its flaws.

The host of Suffer the Little Children is not an expert on the matter of child abuse. Laine Hissett is not a social worker or a journalist. Instead, she is a concerned mother of two who has experienced domestic abuse. Hissett started a blog in 2019 writing about child abuse cases. She used it to help parents become more cautious when it comes to other adults.

Hissett would spend hours researching each case. She made sure to present all the warning signs so that readers can learn from these tragedies. The blog was the basis for the podcast. Hissett extended her research even further by conducting interviews and presenting well-constructed timelines.

In each episode, Hissett focuses on a case where child abuse led to murder or severe injury. The host presents audio clips, articles, and court documents related to the case. She also interviews people who were closest to the incident. This includes law enforcement authorities, families, and the victims themselves.

The stories on this podcast can be challenging to listen to. However, these are meaningful conversations that seek to raise awareness. Laine approaches each case with empathy and caution, making sure to respect the victims.

Suffer the Little Children usually explores cases throughout several episodes. For instance, Hissett examines the death of Macy Grace Ditty in two episodes. In the first installment, the host explains the circumstances behind the two-year-old's death. She talks about Macy Grace's mother and how she kept changing her version of the story. There are also details about the toddler's life and personality.

In the second episode, Hissett interviews Michelle Smith, Macy Grace's great-aunt. She runs a Facebook group trying to get justice for the child. This podcast focuses on the harm done to children and how it affects everyone involved. New episodes of Suffer the Little Children come out several times a month.

Episode 180: The West Memphis Three (An Interview with Dan Stidham)

Episode 180: The West Memphis Three (An Interview with Dan Stidham)
On the evening of May 5, 1993, three eight-year-old boys—Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers—went missing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The next day, in a nearby wooded area, the boys were found brutally murdered, bound, and submerged in a drainage ditch. The horrific nature of the crime shocked the community, and police quickly arrested three local teenagers—Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley—based on a coerced false confession, no solid evidence, and Satanic panic. This is the story of three innocent children whose lives were stolen in an unspeakable act of violence. It’s also the story of three wrongfully convicted teenagers who spent 18 years in prison, one of them on death row, for a crime they didn’t commit—the victims of a flawed justice system and a community in the grip of fear.In today’s episode, I’m honored to discuss a case that has gripped me for many years with the one man who has been involved since the beginning: Jessie Misskelley’s original defense attorney, case advocate, and author of the recent book, A Harvest of Innocence: Judge Dan Stidham. This is our discussion about his book and the tragic case of the West Memphis Three.A Harvest of Innocence by Dan Stidham on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Harvest-Innocence-Untold-Memphis-Murder/dp/B0CMYZ2BT7 Judge Stidham’s website: https://www.danstidham.com Email Judge Stidham with information about the case: harvestofinnocence@outlook.comTruth & Justice with Bob Ruff podcast: https://www.truthandjusticepod.com Paradise Lost documentary series: https://www.max.com/shows/paradise-lost/d509d74f-3c01-4367-9a42-a3aece5de4c9 The Forgotten West Memphis Three docuseries: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12092348/ West of Memphis documentary: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2130321/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 179: Jonathan Carey (Part 3)
Over the past two episodes, I told you the story of non-verbal, autistic 13-year-old Jonathan Carey, who was smothered to death in 2007. His killer was a care worker from a facility for people with developmental disabilities. How could something like this happen? In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Jonathan’s father, Michael Carey, who has spent the last 17 years pushing for a massive overhaul of New York State’s mental health system as well as legislature to help protect others with developmental disabilities. This is part three of the mind-boggling story of Jonathan Carey.Form letter to print and send: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VogzAAW9Kh1by2-IDOgN94ZI73-BxyxZ/view?usp=sharing “Prevalence of Violence”: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/prevalence-of-violenceArticle about sexual predator Stephen DeProspero: https://www.ydr.com/story/news/crime/2017/02/20/predators-dream-ny-pays-3m-family-molested-boy/98154714/ Article about whistleblower Jeffrey Monsour: https://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/news/local-news/2017/11/opwdd-whistleblower-asks-workers-to-speak-up/ “Jane Lynch” affidavit (“coherent oversight scheme”): https://drive.google.com/file/d/17vYWA2DY_HqwIluGcyyadExmDqckjRHh/view?usp=sharing Jonathan’s Law: http://jonathanslaw.com Jonathan Carey Foundation on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JonathanCareyFoundation New York Times Abused and Used series: https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/interactive/nyregion/abused-and-used-series-page.htmlSpotlight movie (2015): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1895587/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 178: Jonathan Carey (Part 2)
In the last episode, I told you the story of Jonathan Carey, a non-verbal, autistic boy whose parents had no choice but to send him to a second residential program after he suffered abuse and torture at the first one he attended. At age 13, Jonathan was restrained and suffocated to death by Developmental Aide Edwin Tirado. In this episode, I’ll continue Jonathan’s story where I left off, and I’ll tell you about the Careys’ continued fight to change the system that tragically took their son from them. This is the story of how a boy’s horrific, preventable death has triggered some—but not enough—changes in the way New York State cares for people with developmental disabilities. This is part two of the mind-boggling story of Jonathan Carey.Jonathan’s Law: http://jonathanslaw.comJonathan Carey Foundation on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JonathanCareyFoundationNew York Times Abused and Used series: https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/interactive/nyregion/abused-and-used-series-page.html Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 177: Jonathan Carey (Part 1)

Episode 177: Jonathan Carey (Part 1)
Jonathan Carey was autistic and nonverbal. Because he needed more care than they could provide in their home, when Jonathan was nine, his parents sent him to a highly recommended residential program at the Anderson School in Staatsburg, New York, where young Jonathan was starved, isolated, and physically abused. Due to the PTSD Jonathan suffered from the abuse, he had difficulties at home, and the Careys had no choice but to find another residential placement for him. In 2005, Jonathan began attending the residential program for adolescents at the well-regarded O.D. Heck Developmental Center in Niskayuna, New York. On February 15, 2007, 13-year-old Jonathan died at the hands of an O.D. Heck employee, and his father, Michael Carey, began his mission to uncover the rampant corruption in New York state’s care system for the developmentally disabled. This is part one of the mind-boggling story of Jonathan Carey. My Magic Mind link | https://magicmind.com/BYLAINE20 (use code BYLAINE20 at checkout)Willowbrook: The Last Great Disgrace | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRK0LO-9ZYk Unforgotten: 25 Years After Willowbrook | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNLyKW8fCNg The Path Forward: Remembering Willowbrook (2023) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ev80qEtp2u4  Interoffice memo about abuse at the Anderson School | http://www.autismschoolabuse.com/Abuse_at_Anderson_School.html Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com.By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 176: Dead Dog Road
In 2003, an East Texas couple adopted three young Russian children. Over the years, there were countless red flags for child abuse, especially against the oldest child, Alexey, who began running away when he was 12. He ended up on the doorstep of the Roosevelt House, an emergency shelter, assessment center, and residential care facility for children removed from abusive situations, usually by CPS. The home’s founder, Diane Black, had no idea that her battle to save Alexey and his sisters, Anastasia and Svetlana, would upend life as she knew it.Diane detailed the story of Alexey, his sisters, the Roosevelt House, and the egregious systemic failure of the Texas child protection system in a book called Dead Dog Road: A True Story Into the Dark World of an Abused Child. In this episode, you’ll hear my recent conversation with Diane about the appalling ways CPS and law enforcement failed Alexey, Anastasia, and Svetlana, and much more. This is Episode 176: Dead Dog Road.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Macy’s mother, Jeanie Ditty, went to trial for murder, but that ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury, and now, over eight years after Macy’s death, justice still hasn’t been served. In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Michelle Smith, Macy Grace’s great-aunt, who runs the Justice for Macy Facebook page and dedicates herself to keeping her precious niece’s memory alive. This is part two of the mind-boggling story of Macy Grace Ditty.Justice for Macy on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Justice4Macy1214 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Episode 173: Macy Grace Ditty (Part 1)

Episode 173: Macy Grace Ditty (Part 1)
On December 2, 2015, 23-year-old U.S. Army specialist Jeanie Ditty called 911 and calmly requested an ambulance for her two-year-old daughter, Macy Grace, who she said had thrown up in her sleep and aspirated. As soon as Macy Grace arrived at the hospital, medical staff took one look at the bruises covering her from head to toe and called the Fayetteville Police, reporting probable child abuse. Tragically, Macy died two days later. This is the story of a young mother with a very slippery grasp on the concept of truth who told multiple stories about the events of that morning. It’s also the story of a bright-eyed little girl who brought joy into the lives of everyone who loved her and who, over eight years after her murder, still hasn’t received justice. This is part one of the mind-boggling story of Macy Grace Ditty.Justice for Macy on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Justice4Macy1214 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Episode 172: Corey Micciolo (with Jim Clemente and Francey Hakes)

Episode 172: Corey Micciolo (with Jim Clemente and Francey Hakes)
Three years ago, in episode 69, I told you the story of six-year-old Corey Micciolo, whose mother fought for months to save her son from his abusive father. Despite her pleas to New Jersey’s Division of Child Protection and Permanency and the family court system, Christopher Gregor retained primary custody of Corey. On March 20, 2021, surveillance cameras in the gym at Christopher’s apartment complex captured horrific footage of Christopher forcing Corey to run on a treadmill, causing him to fall repeatedly. Less than two weeks later, Corey died in the emergency room with a tear to his heart caused by blunt force trauma. Christopher Gregor’s trial is currently taking place in Ocean County Court. In this episode, I had the honor of discussing this disturbing case with two former prosecutors who also happen to be podcasters I’ve deeply admired for years: Jim Clemente and Francey Hakes of Best Case, Worst Case. This is a special crossover episode of Suffer the Little Children and Best Case, Worst Case.Episode 69: Corey Micciolo: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/episode-69-corey-micciolo--45603040Best Case, Worst Case: https://bestcaseworstcase.com/ Real Crime Profile: https://www.realcrimeprofile.com/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Episode 171: Arabella Parker, Retold (Part 3)
Over the last two episodes, I’ve told you the story of three-year-old Arabella Parker, who died in November 2019 after severe abuse at the hands of her mother’s boyfriend, Jahrid Burgess. For this episode, I was honored to speak with three people close to Arabella’s case. First, you’ll hear my recent conversation with the Sunbury Daily Item’s crime reporter, Francis Scarcella, who followed Arabella’s story from the very beginning. Then, you’ll hear me talk with two of Arabella’s maternal aunts, Samantha Delcamp’s sisters, Mandy Kegler and Sarah Delcamp, two amazingly strong women who’ve endured the death of their beloved niece, the imprisonment of their sister, and the cruelty of the public with a great deal of grace. This is part 3 of the complex, tragic story of Arabella Parker, retold.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Bonus Episode: 10 Days of Jacob

Bonus Episode: 10 Days of Jacob
In episodes 35 and 36, back in late 2020, I told you the story of 9-month-old Jacob Landin, a tiny boy with a big laugh and an even bigger personality. Jacob died in April 1987 from a severe traumatic brain injury. When the injury occurred, he was in the care of his mom’s boyfriend, Steven Chavez, who told several different stories to Brenda Landin, medical professionals, and investigators. Despite being the only suspect, failing a polygraph, and reportedly confessing to police, Steven was never prosecuted for Jacob’s murder, and he went on to abuse and terrorize Jacob’s mom and brother for years afterward. For this bonus episode, I spoke again with Eric Carter-Landin, Jacob’s big brother and the host of the True Consequences podcast. We discussed Eric and Brenda’s efforts to get justice for Jacob, the New Mexico Attorney General’s refusal to treat Jacob and his family with the respect they deserve, why they finally decided to name Steven after all these years, and how we can help by getting on board with the current 10 Days of Jacob campaign.Attorney General “Contact Us” form: https://nmdoj.gov/contact-us New Mexico Department of JusticeOffice of the Attorney General, Raúl Torrez201 3rd St. NWAlbuquerque, NM 87102(505) 490-4060 Episode 35: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/re-release-episode-35-jacob-landin-part-1--47429959Episode 36: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/re-release-episode-36-jacob-landin-part-2--47429996 True Consequences - NM Forgotten Child - Jacob Jeremiah Landin, part 1: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin--25919867Part 2: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin-part-2--26727541Part 3: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nm-forgotten-child-jacob-jeremiah-landin-part-3--25919870True Consequences - A Brother’s Love: Justice for Jacob Landin: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/a-brother-s-love-justice-for-jacob-landin--59154357True Consequences - A Family’s Love: Justice for Jacob: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/a-family-s-love-justice-for-jacob--59239092 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! In the last episode, I told you the first part of the story of three-year-old Arabella Parker, who was rushed to the hospital on October 10, 2019, reportedly suffering from a seizure. Because medical staff wasn’t told that the seizure resulted from severe head trauma, the damage was irreparable, and Arabella died on November 22, 2019.In this episode, I’ll take you through the hearings and the trials of the three people accused of allowing, causing, or covering up the reason for Arabella’s death: her mother, Samantha Delcamp; Samantha’s boyfriend, Jahrid Burgess; and Jahrid’s mother, Christy Willis. In the next episode, you’ll hear my conversations with several people close to Arabella’s case. This is part two of the complex, tragic story of Arabella Parker, retold. The Crime Wire article, “Amanda Parker, Samantha Delcamp, and the Domestic Violence Debate”: https://thecrimewire.com/multifarious/woman-who-berated-samantha-delcamp-is-branded-a-hypocrite Beyond Duress: Supporting the Admissibility of Evidence of Battered Woman Syndrome to Aid the Defenses of Battered Mothers Charged with Failing to Protect Their Children Against Their Common Abuser: https://aulawreview.org/blog/beyond-duress-supporting-the-admissibility-of-evidence-of-battered-woman-syndrome/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Episode 169: Arabella Parker, Retold (Part 1)
Four years ago, in episodes 16 and 17, I told you the tragic story of 3-year-old Arabella Parker. Because that was so early in my podcasting journey, I’m not satisfied with my coverage of her story, so I’m revisiting it in an all-new, comprehensive re-telling as I’ve never told it before: with the help of her family and others. On October 10, 2019, Arabella reportedly suffered a seizure at her home in Trevorton, Pennsylvania. At the hospital, doctors immediately suspected child abuse based on her multitude of injuries, which included a head injury so severe that they had to remove part of Arabella’s brain. Her mother’s boyfriend, Jahrid Burgess, was arrested almost immediately. After her mother, Samantha Delcamp, gave multiple conflicting statements to police, to reporters, and even on The Steve Wilkos Show, Samantha was also arrested. When the tiny, beloved red-haired girl died after six weeks on life support, Jahrid and Samantha’s charges were upgraded to homicide. This is part one of the complex, tragic story of Arabella Parker, retold. Thanks to Magic Mind for sponsoring the show! (Re-Release) Episode 110: Ger'mya Alexander
(This episode was originally released in April 2022.)On the morning of Wednesday, March 18, 2020, police in Bakersfield, California responded to an apartment on a report of an eight-year-old child not breathing. Although Ger’Mya Alexander was rushed to the hospital, she died of her injuries the same day. Her mother’s boyfriend, 37-year-old Clint Mason, who had been caring for Ger’Mya when she was fatally injured, fled on foot and was apprehended the next morning. This is the story of a smart, sweet, caring little girl who adored her granny and sometimes got in trouble at school for talking too much. It’s also the story of her unnecessary, brutal death at the hands of a man she should have been able to trust to protect her. This is the heartbreaking story of Ger’Mya Alexander.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Please help me devote myself to the podcast full-time to keep the weekly episodes coming! Six months later, Alan and Mary were arrested for Judah’s brutal murder. In this episode, you’ll hear multiple updates to Judah’s story in my most recent conversation with his “real” mom, Jenna Hullett, who is truly one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever known. These are the most recent updates to the tragic story of Judah Morgan.Champions for Children Indiana Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/341950044468603justiceforjudah# Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/5145688765446786 Raylee’s Law Added to Homeschooling Bill: https://wvmetronews.com/2024/02/27/raylees-law-added-to-bill-in-house-on-homeschooling/ Episode 4: Raylee Browning: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/episode-4-raylee-browning--23972130 Episode 124: Hazel Homan (Part 1): https://www.spreaker.com/episode/episode-124-hazel-homan-part-1--51018848Episode 125: Hazel Homan (Part 2): https://www.spreaker.com/episode/episode-125-hazel-homan-part-2--51086828 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Episode 167: Childhood Torture (with Ali Davis)
On this podcast, I’ve told you the stories of many children whose deaths came at the hands of parents or guardians after extended periods of what can only be described as torture. Intra-familial child torture is a disturbingly common occurrence, and it has a 36% fatality rate for the children affected. In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with childhood torture survivor and advocate Ali Davis. Ali survived 19 years of torture at the hands of one of her parents. Her experience led her to create the Pretty Graffiti Foundation to fund humanitarian aid for survivors of non-war-related childhood torture in the U.S.This is the inspiring story of Ali Davis and the Pretty Grafitti Foundation.Ali’s Medium article about her childhood experience: https://prettigraffiti.medium.com/i-survived-bill-gothards-cult-now-i-m-on-a-mission-to-secure-humanitarian-aid-for-other-ce35c54b37f5 Shop Survivor Owned: https://www.prettigraffiti.org/shop-survivor-ownedSign up for the Pretty Graffiti mailing list and/or request aid: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBu-tClyVA6JEhFIL81HIoOtibK6Yd7K23NXa-0kG_B_bpQg/viewformAli Davis on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@_ali_davis_ The Pretty Graffiti Foundation website: https://www.prettigraffiti.org/ Pretty Graffiti Foundation on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/prettigraffitifoundation/ Ali’s article about how true crime affects survivors: https://prettigraffiti.medium.com/your-love-of-true-crime-is-not-more-important-than-trauma-survivors-agency-over-our-own-stories-a7fbc054d631 Ali’s upcycled makeup/embroidery pieces hosted by Palette Gallery: https://www.palettegalleries.com/online-marketplace/p/save-the-manKnox et. al, "Child Torture as a Form of Child Abuse" in the Journal of Child & Adolescent Trauma, 2014: https://www.tdcaa.com/wp-content/uploads/Knox-Torture-as-a-Form-of-Child-Abuse-article.pdfShiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets on Amazon Prime: https://www.amazon.com/Shiny-Happy-People-Duggar-Secrets/dp/B0B8TR2QV5 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Episode 166: Serenity Robinson
On February 17, 2020, police in Fort Myers, Florida responded to a horrific single-vehicle accident in which a minivan carrying two women and a three-year-old girl veered off the road, hit several palm trees, and flipped over. The little girl, Serenity Robinson, was not in a car seat and was unrestrained. Her mother, Leslie Joe Zeagler, was found to be impaired by multiple controlled substances and survived with minor injuries. Serenity was not so lucky.Leslie was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Later, Fort Myers police officer Tyler Williams was also charged after prosecutors learned he had pulled Leslie over a month earlier, found illegal drugs in the van, and let her go because he didn’t feel like calling DCF that morning. Even though this officer’s intervention likely would have saved Serenity’s life, a judge dismissed the charges, and the only person prosecuted was her mother. In this episode, you’ll also hear my conversation with Serenity’s father, Randy Robinson, who hasn’t given up on getting justice for his baby girl. This is the infuriating story of Serenity Robinson. Thanks to Magic Mind for sponsoring the show! Episode 165: Joan D'Alessandro (Part 2)
Last week, I told you about the abduction and murder of seven-year-old Joan D’Alessandro. On April 19, 1973, Joan was delivering Girl Scout cookies when her neighbor, Joseph McGowan, a high school science teacher, lured her into his basement, sexually assaulted her, and brutally beat and strangled the helpless little girl. McGowan pleaded guilty to felony murder and was sentenced to life in the New Jersey prison system with the possibility of parole after 14 years. In this episode, I’ll dig deep into McGowan’s various psychological evaluations and his interview with famed FBI profiler John Douglas, trying to reconcile the mild-mannered man McGowan appeared to be with the heinous rapist and murderer he became on Holy Thursday, 1973. Also in this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Joan’s mother, Rosemarie D’Alessandro, who has spent decades advocating for children and victims’ families in her beloved daughter’s name. This is part 2 of the horrifying but incredibly inspiring story of Joan D’Alessandro. Thanks to Magic Mind for sponsoring the show!
