On this AudioSode, Join Doc-E and his guest Shawntae as they discuss mental health in the black community. This was one of my favorite audiosodes to record and you guys are gonna enjoy all the informative entertainment! We start off with how the current social climate (COVID and BLM Movement) as well as my guest's personal mental health issues had an impact on her wanting to discuss this topic (6:00). The conversation then flows to the disparities in care when it comes to mental health treatment in the Black community (10:30); self-medication and the structural racism factors behind that. Why is talking about mental health still taboo and viewed as a stigma in the black community? We then pivot to the barriers to changing this narrative and the roadblocks to receiving treatment for mental illness (22:25). My guest talks about her WHOLE-listic approach to care and we dive into how nutrition/being active can affect mental health (35:00). The audiosode then concludes with a true or false segment (46:00), do you know which foods improve mental well-being? Find this out and a lot more, enjoy!
Also, be on the lookout out for my guest Shawntae's very own podcast dropping in 2021!
