The Subconscious mind is the band of the mind that stores memory, organizes and processes experience, utilizes the faculty of imagination and visualization and operates the subtle mechanisms of karma. It lies between the Conscious mind and the Metaconscious mind. We access the Subconscious mind through psychotherapy, hypnosis, and meditation. It is the repository of the totality of our past experiences and is our link with the higher bands of awareness, the Metaconscious and Superconscious bands of the mind. The Conscious mind includes your experience in the present time. When you're meditating on the centers of the Conscious mind, you become aware of what you are experiencing in the present time. Through meditation on the Conscious mind, Buddhism developed the idea of impermanence. Mindfulness meditation (also known as Vipassana) consists of a number of techniques that focus your awareness on what is arising in the present time.
