She's Got Skin in the Game, Gill Kirk
This week, Kristin combines two of her worlds speaking with Gill Kirk. Despite a "humble Glaswegian working class" background, Gill has walked the halls of Oxford and Parliament. She’s set up her own business, written for corporations, stage and screen, and been a kickass single mum. A perfect The Second Chapter guest indeed! She’s also written Skin in the Game, the dark, hilarious climate-change play Kristin is producing at the New Wimbledon Studio theatre in November.  If Kristin's conversation with Gill whet your appetite for live theatre, you can find the ticket link here: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/skin-in-the-game/studio-at-new-wimbledon-theatre/ We’re also halfway through a crowdfunder to ensure our cast and creatives can be paid more fairly than fringe theatre ticket sales allows. A Potted History- Debbie Page, Ceramist
This week Kristin speaks with Debbie Page. To say Debbie is a potter or a ceramist is an understatement. Despite finding a feel for clay in her early teens, it took her decades to make it her career. Now pots are Debbie’s life! Don’t know what a moon jar is? Just love hearing some really uplifting chat from someone who has found their thing? Either way, you’re in the right place… this is Debbie Page! Debbie Page is a studio potter, based in South Oxfordshire.  She was introduced to the joy of working with clay at school but it took another 20 years before she had the opportunity to really get to grips with the whole world of pottery. She developed an obsession with making teapots, fell in love with Jomon pottery, and spent a lot of time and effort learning to throw on the wheel only to discover, once she’d cracked it, that she prefers hand-building. Completely by chance, she found the pottery love of her life – the Korean Moon Jar, from someone who never made one. With an integrated masters degree in drama performance and touring theatre under her belt, Jen is now ready to take on the world- and in true The Second Chapter style, hopes to encourage other women over 35 to pursue their own dreams. From Hiding in the Corner to Saying YES, Artist Jennifer Baker
This week Kristin chats with Jennifer Baker, who studied as an artist but found herself on a mountaintop in Italy, raising a family and living without her art. A successful translation business took her even further away from her original passion until Covid forced her to ask herself some tough questions. Once she stopped hiding and started saying yes, the magic started happening... My paintings are an ode to life, to becoming, and to majesty. They are a reminder to take a moment to release the trappings of the mundane, to look up, down, far, and close. To be still. Living an Unconventional Life, Pam Munter
This week, Kristin is speaking with Pam Munter who proudly calls herself ‘an outspoken advocate of living an unconventional life’. In a time when it wasn’t encouraged, Pam wanted to be something other than a teacher or nurse. She has spent her life exploring a wide array of different careers, including clinical psychologist, a singer/recording artist and author and an award-winning playwright. Currently she's focusing on writing; her recent book Fading Fame: Women of a Certain Age in Hollywood talks about a time when Hollywood studio moguls tried to end the careers of actresses like Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis, who aged out of the profession they loved. Pam is certainly fascinating- and she may just inspire you to pursue the next stage in your life! From Civil Rights Attorney to Practical Theologian, Marcia Ledford
This week Kristin talks everything from Scrabble to the state of the world with guest Marcia Ledford. Marcia worked as a civil rights attorney for over 30 years, including as an ACLU cooperating attorney on constitutional matters, prior to her ordination. In her forties when a higher calling wouldn't stop "bugging her", she decided it was finally time to take the leap, though she certainly hasn't given up fighting for civil liberties for all. Through her organisation https://www.politicaltheologymatters.com (Political Theology Matters), Marcia gives voice to social issues that impact the lives of ordinary people. Her aim is to participate as one of many different voices of faith who work for a more just society.  Marcia is also an award-winning photographer! You can find more about Marcia's work and the resources we discuss on the podcast at: https://www.politicaltheologymatters.com https://www.politicaltheologymatters.com/resources/ Thanks for listening! --- Subscribe, review and share The Second Chapter- wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts or on podchaser.com - For transcript, go to thesecondchapterpodcast.com - If you like what we do, buy us a virtual coffee! https://ko-fi.com/thesecondchapter Twitter: @slacklineprodu2, Instagram: @the_second_chapter_podcast, On Facebook and YouTube as Slackline Productions #womenover35 #wearebadass On The Second Chapter, serial careerist and founder of http://slacklineproductions.co.uk/ (Slackline Productions), Kristin Duffy, chats with women who started the second (or third… or fifth!) chapter in their careers and lives, after 35. Beyond the Beyond Sixty Project, Melissa Davey
For the first time ever on The Second Chapter, Kristin has a guest back for an update. Back in season one, you loved the story of Melissa Davey, who left corporate life at 65 to become a filmmaker.  Melissa’s film has been officially released, so Kristin jumped at the chance to speak with her again. Today, we talk about the film, our shared loved of ensuring women of all ages have a platform to tell their stories, and what's next for the now 70-year-old filmmaker!  This week on The Second Chapter podcast, Kristin talks with Melissa Davey, a documentary filmmaker who, after a career in non-profit, then as a high-level exec in the corporate world, left to become a filmmaker at 65. After a unexpected encounter with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan inspired her to follow her dream, Melissa spent a year planning and went on to film Beyond Sixty Project™, a documentary feature film initiative about women over the age of 60. The Beyond Sixty Project challenges the way we think about aging and the value of our own stories. Melissa is living her own beyond sixty project! For more about Melissa and the Beyond Sixty Project, go to http://www.beyondsixtyproject.com. You can follow her on Instagram @gettingoldbutwhocares or the project @beyond60project. From Tax Law to The Brink of Being, Julia Bueno
This week, Kristin chats with teacher and lawyer turned psychologist, Julia Bueno. As regular listeners will know, there are several female-centric topics that Kristin feels don’t get enough attention or open discussion, one being pregnancy loss.  Julia has taught and practiced law, but following her own painful experience with miscarriage, became a psychologist. Her first book, The Brink of Being, encourages people to reflect upon this often misunderstood and little discussed event. She’s working on her next book, currently titled Everyone’s a Critic exploring the universal habit of self-criticism.
