The Concept of Ćejf :

The Concept of Ćejf :
In This Episode of the podcast I have the pleasure of speaking with Nermin Numić, the co-owner and founder of a travel agency in Sarajevo called Ćejf, which is based on this very concept. “Numa” (thats his nickname) explained that the word Ćejf is derived from the Arabic word kayf, which means pleasure. It's a way of life that is all about finding pleasure in the small things. What's unique about Ćejf is that it's deeply personal and individual. Everyone has their own definition of what brings them pleasure and what makes them happy. In Sarajevo, where Numa is from, Ćejf is a way of life that is respected and cherished by everyone. If someone is enjoying their own personal Ćejf, like smoking a cigarette or sipping on a cup of coffee, it's respected by others and not disrupted. The concept of Ćejf is more than just living in the moment or enjoying life's pleasures. It's a way of life that is deeply ingrained in the culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's a reminder to slow down and appreciate the little things in life that can bring us joy and happiness. It's about taking the time to connect with others over a cup of coffee or a meal and enjoying their company.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 An Englishman in the Balkans 🇧🇦 is a reader-supported publication.Get full access to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 An Englishman in the Balkans 🇧🇦 at www.anenglishmaninthebalkans.com/subscribe This is a public episode. World Radio Day 2022

World Radio Day 2022
Hello and welcome to this week's post, which is audio based. Why? Well this 13th February is World Radio Day.As you will know from following the blog, plus my content on social platforms, I have always been passionate about radio. In fact, I came to Bosnia and Herzegovina back in 1998, to launch a radio station!Back to this post. My initial plan was to write about the history of this UN launched project, but, by pure happenstance, an old radio buddy of mine who is in Canada, and runs a community station there, contacted me and asked if we could chat about radio for his programme on Midtown Radio.I simply couldn’t refuse, so here’s David Harmes, chatting with me about radio and why its so important a medium.Click on the player at the top of this post to listen :) This podcast is both a fun and serious conversation about community radio.I (we) hope you enjoy it.So grab a tea of coffee and put 30 or so minutes aside to join us.What is World Radio Day?World Radio Day 2022 will be celebrated once again on the 13th of February. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) proclaimed the event at their 36th Conference after it was put forward as an idea by the Kingdom of Spain. The purpose of World Radio Day is to raise greater awareness among the public and the media of the importance of radio. This is done in the hope that we can encourage decision makers to establish and provide access to information through radio. World Radio Day brings people and communities from all backgrounds together in order to create dialogue for positive change. Radio is also a fantastic way to provide democratic debate over issues such as violence and political arguments. It can promote and raise awareness among old and new listeners! The 2022 edition of World Radio Day is based around 3 sub-themes:Evolution - The world is always changing, so radio evolves along with it. This refers to the resilience and sustainability of radio!Innovation - The world is always changing, so radio adapts and innovates. Radio has had to adapt to new technology to remain the go-to medium of mobility, accessible to everyone, everywhere!Connection - The world is always changing, so radio connects. This sub-theme refers to radio's services to our society!Top 5 Facts about the Radio* Physicist Heinrich Hertz was the first person to prove that radio waves exist.* A ‘broadcast’ only occurs when a radio signal is sent to many receivers at once.* The first radio messages were one-way and were an attempt to replace telegraph messages.* FM radio began in 1939.* There are almost 15,000 radio stations alone in the USA.Midtown Radio.Website:Instagram:Twitter:Facebook:Get full access to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 An Englishman in the Balkans 🇧🇦 at www.anenglishmaninthebalkans.com/subscribe This is a public episode. SpeedQueen in Bosnia and Herzegovina

SpeedQueen in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Between 2002 and 2004, a successful Club in Leeds UK, called SpeedQueen, temporarily set up in the north west of Bosnia and Herzegovina to bring a new experience to the youth of the area.NATO at that time had a byline for their operation. It was “Mir i Tolerancija”, or “Peace and Tolerance”SpeedQueen however, really hit the mark with youth audiences with their “Harmonija I Fantazija” or “Harmony and Fantasy”.This podcast starts to tell that story.I think one of the biggest experiences that we had was, we got asked by NATO, by the Stabilisation Force– if we would go and work in Bosnia, because, there was a guy there in the British Army who read about the kind of work we were doing in Leeds, in terms of integration. And he’d started a program to try and integrate the young displaced people after the war because there'd been this huge genocide in Bosnia years previously. And, he'd told us that the older generation were even more prejudiced after the war, like more set in their ways, and they were trying to, they were trying to integrate the youth through music. and he asked if we would go out there, like for ten days, and run some club nights where they were gonna try and integrate the youth and we said yeah..Suzy Mason, SpeedQueen Leeds 2002.If you would like to support our podcast you can, by maybe buying us a coffee or a sandwich?Oh, and you can also share the newsletter with friends, relatives and colleagues using the button below.Read More About SpeedQueen in Bosnia on Our Blog Post at Living in Bosnia and HerzegovinaAsk us any questions or give a suggestion for a Podcast.E-Mail us at anenglishmaninthebalkans@gmail.comGet full access to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 An Englishman in the Balkans 🇧🇦 at www.anenglishmaninthebalkans.com/subscribe This is a public episode.
