From toxic relationships to tragedy… how Hollie Gazzard’s story is being used to educate people on the dangers of toxic relationships with Nick Gazzard
When Hollie Gazzard went into the hair salon in Gloucester where she worked on 18 February 2014, she had little idea of the tragic events that were about to unfold. Although after months of obsessive behaviour, jealousy, and harassment from her partner… and having finally ENDED the relationship days earlier she may have had some trepidation. Following her horrific murder, the family, Nick, Amanda and Chloe, wanted something positive to come out of the loss and set up the Hollie Gazzard Trust not only to help other victims but to raise funds to support young people. Hollie had suffered from domestic abuse, violence and stalking in the time leading up to her death and tackling these issues is at the forefront of the work they do. The charity has made it a key aim to develop programmes and tools to help those experiencing domestic abuse and to promote healthy relationships, particularly providing education in schools and colleges. Today we’re joined by Hollie’s dad Nick who has pioneered work in his daughter’s name to help countless others avoid experiencing the same challenges that his own family has gone through. We are going to be looking at: - How to spot the early signs of abusive and manipulative behaviour - What are the danger signs of things escalating out of control, and how we can take action early to avoid this - The range of abusive or toxic behaviour from the milder to more extreme end of the scale - What you can do if you suspect that you are in a toxic or controlling relationship Find out more about the Hollie Gazzard Trust at: https://holliegazzard.org/ You can see how you can get involved, access workshops and programmes and get involved through volunteering and fundraising.

“Out of control…” how to take back control of your life (and relationship) without piling on MORE suffering with anxiety expert Daniel Farmer
When we’re struggling in our relationship one of the ways we might experience it is that things are outside of our control. And while we might be really affected by a sense that things are not in our control, we’ve got to navigate the journey with this other person who has their own ideas, values and priorities. Today we’re joined by anxiety expert Daniel Farmer who is an avid student and practitioner of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Having had such success using these skills in supporting his own journey he now helps others dealing with anxiety and negative thought patterns. We're going to be looking at: - How to ensure that we don’t create the thing that we fear the most through our focus on thoughts that are potentially neither helpful nor true - What is ‘negativity bias’ and how could it be affecting our behaviour without us even knowing it? - The circular relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours and how we can get ‘more of the same stuff’ in a vicious cycle if we are not able to intervene - Looking at whether ‘achieving control’ could become part of the problem, rather than a kind of solution - How we can identify our disempowering thoughts and choosing not to engage with them, so that we avoid damaging safety-seeking reactions You can find out more about Daniel’s work at www.anxious-to-zen.com or follow his work on his YouTube channel www.youtube.com/@AnxiousToZenIsh
