Our Editor's Take

Wellness with Ella is a UK-based podcast for people who hope to improve their lives through nutrition. The host of the podcast is Ella Mills. She started the blog Deliciously Ella while in college. At first, the blog was a personal diary. Due to health issues, Ella decided to switch to a plant-based diet and learn how to cook better.

Soon, Deliciously Ella grew into a lifestyle brand. What started as a recipe website turned into an app, a restaurant in London, and a range of food products. Wellness with Ella is the companion podcast to the Deliciously Ella brand.

In a world of fad diets and fixation on metrics, Ella's approach to nutrition is a little different. Wellness is not about weight, this week's superfood, or deprivation here. Instead, it's about feeling healthy in mind and body. Ella chooses a plant-based diet because of her specific health challenges. As a result, all recipes are plant-based. Still, there is no pressure from the podcast to adhere to a certain lifestyle or diet.

While food and diet are frequent topics in the podcast, there are other wellness-related conversations. Rugby player Jonny Wilkinson talks about the difference between external validation and self-worth. In spite of his professional achievements, Wilkinson struggled with depression and anxiety. In another episode, Alice Liveing joins. She wants listeners to free themselves from the tyranny of body image. She provides a toolkit to fight against perfectionism and toward self-acceptance. Angela Scanlon shares her addiction to fad diets and quick fixes. Practicing gratitude helped her get out of her own cycle.

There are plenty of episodes about nutrition, too. Ella chats with "Glucose Goddess" Jessie Inchauspé. She finds that controlling blood sugar levels can help with mental and physical health. Epidemiologist Tim Spector explains gut biomes and gut health.

Wellness with Ella may appeal to listeners looking for an alternative to dieting. The focus is on accepting oneself rather than trying to meet impossible standards. Nutrition advice on the show is about feeling good, not looking good.
