I’m really much, much happier with the Anywhere 2S (as per your last show Bargain Basement). It’s a much, much better size for me - and I still get the super-speed scroll function. And back/right clicks on the wheel (that you don’t get with the Master 3). So there! 😛 ------------------- Steve Litchfield Feedback on power stations from the last Tech Addicts show. I'm afraid you were a couple of orders of magnitude out. As a rule, a medium power station like my Jackery 500 (so 500Wh, around 100,000mAh) can't really help much with a home's electricity for any time whatsoever. It'll run some tech (router, laptops) for an hour or two (plus tablets and phones). That's your lot. A massive £3000 power station like the one on your show or the new Jackery 2000 can output 2kW, it's true, but only for an hour(!) - so will actually allow limited use of kettle, one fan heater, and so on, OR perhaps a house's lights, fridges and freezers for a day. Even the giant Tesla powerwalls can only handle a typical house's electrical needs for a day or so. In short, there's no easy way to have a backup to 'run your house for days on end' - if there was then we'd all be doing it! What I'm doing with the Jackery is playing (and soothing my eco-conscience). But it's two orders of magnitude from being useful for a household in a multi-day power outage, I'm afraid. ------------------ Jeremy Harpham on Ants crawl inside woman's Kindle and start buying books 😂 Hardline on the hardware: Pixel 7 and 7 Pro to Launch October 13th Motorola cancels Razr 2022, X30 Pro launch at the last minute Rescheduled for 11th August Components held by China after Nancy Pelosi met exec New HyperX DuoCast USB microphones from £100 The Logitech G Aurora Collection: gaming peripherals for people who don’t like gaming peripherals This working GameBoy phone case is the ultimate time and money waster Xiaomi's Mijia ecosystem gets AR Glasses with Snapdragon 8 chipset OnePlus 10T will feature superfast 150W charging in the US, but only 125W for USA - Specs Logitech announces a new dedicated cloud gaming handheld deviceRazer is working on a Nintendo Switch competitor — and it looks INCREDIBLE LG Ultra Tab Unveiled – 10.4-Inch Android Tablet With Wacom Stylus Lenovo Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition 8-inch Android tablet Flap your trap about an App: iPhone and Android users spend more than 4 hours per day in apps, TikTok tops usage Twitter will allow you to edit your tweets for 30 minutes Winamp, the old-school MP3 software, is officially back YouTube rolls out experimental 'pinch to zoom' feature for Premium users Pixel flashlight reminders Chromebooks News Chrome showing Google Photos memories right in the New Tab Page  'New Google.com' adds weather, news, and other cards, enters wider testing New ASUS Chromebook CX1 with 12hr battery Why is so hard to find? Though not so convenient when I pop back over to England to see the family! Also, a tip… You can buy a prepaid sim with 12gb of data here in Spain for 10 euros but DON’T do it at the airport! You will be charged €30 for a €10 sim, when there are hundreds of little mobile stores in Barcelona (and I presume other cities) where you can nip in and pick one up for a third of the price. You just have to show your passport.   Double Stream Deck! Ted’s adventures with taxonomy! Mike Robins on How to Stop Windows From Powering Off Your USB Devices In a recent TechAddicts Podcast (26th June) there was a discussion about the Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse which would lose connection intermittently. I thought it worth reposting this reminder that often USB ports are 'powered down' by Windows - to save power, this behaviour can be turned off. So if anyone has a USB device that seems to go to sleep, it is worth checking that the USB ports / USB Hub are set to keep powered up at all times. Matt Jones on Raleigh Vektar Another great walk down memory lane. Thanks! I was recently reminded of the Vektar when the owner of my local childhood bike shop passed away and this old photo was shared. If you look in the window on the right you can see a shiny new Vektar, along with promotional graphics. I remember this vividly as I spent many an hour with my nose pressed up against the window lusting after it! 13 year olds like me had just been introduced to an 8-bit Trans Am (Knight Rider), Motorcycles (Street Hawk) and Helicopters (Airwolf) so when they told us about a computerised bike, we didn’t think they meant a cheap radio and a siren! We were young and naive enough to think we were getting AI and self driving ability! As soon as we learned it couldn’t talk, and you still had to pedal it we soon lost interest, and I think the spoilt brats that got them for Christmas were all gravely disappointed! ------------------ Ian Barton on Google Might Be Going To Scupper Ad blockers -------------------- Jeremy Harpham on the Sony Neckband SRS-NB10 bluetooth headset I was getting ear troubles with continued use of in-ear or over ear headphones on too many Teams/Zoom calls. Like many, my working world has reversed since the pandemic. Instead of 80% office I'm now 80% home. This headset would not make sense in an office environment. Comfort - Superb. All day wearable to an extent that you don't notice it. Sound quality - fabulous for listening to voice calls, podcasts, casual radio listening. Don't bother if for music. Call clarity is excellent. Does pick up louder background noise. Battery life is a full 5 days working-week (so 40 hours?). And USB-C charging too with quick top-up. Couple of hours for a full charge. Build quality is typical Sony, so great. Bluetooth never drops. Multipoint to 2 devices. Exceeded my expectations and is definitely now my main device for work calls. Excellent value for money. --------------------- Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse  Ted’s new monitor… MSI Optix AG321CQR Curved Gaming Monitor  Hardline on the hardware: Marshall widens the soundstage on its new home speaker lineup Ikea, Swedish House Mafia collab on beefy turntable for new fall collection Poco F4 Pro reportedly cancelled as more Poco F4 details are confirmed Anker 625 Solar Panel released with 100 W power output and USB-C port Anbernic RG353P is a retro gaming handheld that dual boots Android and Linux Motorola Razr 3's price leaks 1,149 Euros Apple fined for slowing down old iPhones Samsung is getting sued for predicting remaining battery life New report reaffirms Samsung Galaxy S22 FE cancellation rumours A cheaper Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G is coming with the Snapdragon 720G at the helm Three pay-as-you-go prices to rise by up to 250% for thousands of users ZTE Axon 40 Ultra goes global, sales begin on June 21 - Specs Samsung Galaxy Xcover6 Pro - Full phone specifications Xiaomi Book S 12.4 Photo Leaks Flap your trap about an App: Last chance to browse using Microsoft's Internet Explorer is this week Samsung launches Samsung Wallet, a one-stop shop to manage your digital identity Microsoft Defender brings online and local protection to all platforms Vivaldi launches its own email client with integrated calendar and RSS reader Windows 11 'Restore Apps' feature will make it easier to set up new PCs Microsoft leaks Windows 11 23H2 desktop app folders feature ChromeOS News Chrome OS will mimic Windows 11 with Partial Split Chromebook windows Chrome OS could let you split your screen in different ways Simple Notepad Extension for Chrome The killer calendar app your Chromebook's been missing - Business Calendar 2 Hark Back:  The Royal Silver Reed Portable Typewriter  Bargain Basement: Best UK deals and tech on sale we have spotted Microsoft 365 Personal 15 Months subscription - Was: £139.99 Now: £39.99 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Smartphone Sim Free Android Folding phone 128GB Black (UK Version) £599 down from £949 AKG Pro Audio Ara Professional USB-C Condenser Microphone - Now £74.60 Was: £99.00 HUAWEI Sound Joy Portable Bluetooth Speaker £69.99 down from £129.99, 79 dBA @2 m Devialet Quad Speakers, 26 Hour Playback, Shake Stereo Link Up, Spruce Green Nokia XR20 £100 off, now £299 - beware this is the 64GB/4GB not 128GB/6GB   Main Show URL: | PodHubUK Contact:: gareth@techaddicts.uk | @techaddictsuk Gareth - @garethmyles | garethmyles.com | Gareth’s Ko-Fi Ted - tedsalmon.com | Ted’s PayPal | Ted’s Amazon | tedsalmon@post.com YouTube: Tech Addicts

Sunday 1st May - Mr Musk to Topple Twitter
With Gareth Myles and Ted SalmonJoin us on Mewe RSS Link: iTunes | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | Tunein | Spotify  Amazon | Pocket Casts | Castbox | PodHubUK Feedback and Contributions: Matt Jones I enjoyed the bit about Pocket PC's on the last show! I jumped onboard with the original XDA, and Jumped off right at the end with the HTC HD2! I had pretty much every incarnation in between, including the iMate Jam Ted mentioned. My personal favourite was the HTC Advantage that had a 4GB HDD (Yes, spinning HDD)! Along with the Battery life not being great, I recall the XDA also had volatile memory! So, if your battery hit zero, you would lose all your data, messages etc. until you synced with your PC! Any messages that you had  received after the last sync would be lost forever! Kids don't know they are born today 😂 Tech was so much more fun then though. We do feel for people having to endure ludicrous heat in India during this current peak, including one of our PSC Group members Babul Mohanty who asks… …how hot should we allow our batteries to be? My battery frequently crosses 40°C while fast (15W) or wireless charging (5W) in the daytime. I believe Samsung's recommendation of 10-40°C is about ambient temperature. And even if outside it is 40°C+, inside the house it will be much less. Also the phone regulates its battery temperature by slowing down charging as it gets hotter. Still I would like to know at what battery temperature it starts to affect it adversely. A few days ago I was fast wireless charging (10W) at noon and the battery temperature reached 45°C and it stopped charging. I have stopped wireless charging completely. I use the 25W charger only in emergencies, and only inside an Air-conditioned room. I use the 15W charger mostly. Ian Chapple Hard to know what the manufacturers can do, apart from throttling charging to keep temperatures down, whether wireless or wired. It's not easy to improve/increase the cooling within the phone itself. Kurt Kaufman You're probably doing the right thing by using slow charging wherever possible, as that will produce the least amount of heat. AJ Santos I had that problem with my Pixel 3 XL in India when I was there a few years ago. Quick fix I found was to charge with the cable and have the phone on surfaces like kitchen floor tiles, kitchen top, marble, that type of surface. That helped to dissipate heat from the back of the mobile or the screen and bring the phone temperature down and worked quite quickly. And lucky enough to be in the first few months of deliveries, meaning that I started at 16K and eventually moved up to 48k, microdrives, et al. Only replaced 6 years later with an Atari ST - I sold the last one, one broke but I still have a Spectrum Plus 48K in the attic. Might have to dig it out, complete with tape recorder. What was your first foray into computing? Ted Salmon I think it was a BBC Micro (or Acorn) at home and IBM XT at work. Mid-80's. Adrian Brain Mine was the Sinclair ZX81, after having played with my (at the time) girlfriend's brother's ZX80, which he assembled himself. Phillip Wray Vic-20 for me. After polytechnic I became a software engineer so multiple other types of machines mainly DEC before PCs came along! Wayne Kelly Vic 20 for me too. We used to have zx80 and zx81s at school running on old massive black and white TVs. Always thought the zx80 looked better and more futuristic than the zx81. Chris Kelly The first I had at home was the ZX80 but before that I had used the Commodore PET to learn BASIC (Beginners' All Purpose Instruction Code) at college in the late 70's. Matt Jones I was a ZX81 guy! A while back I discovered a ZX81 emulator on the iPad, and managed to remember enough to write a simple program that ran first time with no syntax errors ! I was really impressed considering it was nearly 40 years ago and I was only about 12 at the time, and have had nothing to do with even trying to program these things since. 😂 Xerxes Hodivala ZX81, Acorn Atom, ZX Spectrum, Atari 800XL. They were all great in their way but then I switched up to an Atari ST when I went to uni. That machine was in a different league. I learned four different programming languages on it. Trump’s Truth Disaster Chad Dixon Another entertaining and informative show gentleman. Some feedback for Gareth regarding my mobile gaming experiences. I had a ZX Spectrum back in the early 80's and loved playing those cassette-loaded games. However I never was a fan of pc or console gaming and hence never used independent joysticks. My first foray into gaming on-the-go was when I got a PSP. I think SSX on Tour Snowboarding was my favourite as it had a brilliant soundtrack. Since then I've done all my gaming exclusively on smartphones because I always have one with me and the recent models’ processors can handle the intense graphics. I have been known to be playing Call of Duty Mobile for three hours straight on my Samsung Galaxy S20FE and not suffer any RSI. Matthew Jones on the Yamaha Organ Very enjoyable show. The Yamaha organ part was a nice trip down memory lane too and it's amazing how far that particular tech has come. Despite not being able to play properly, I had Keyboards, Drum machines, an Atari 1040ste and lots of midi cables in my failed attempts of Bedroom music production! I'd guess about £1,500 of kit, and this was considered not even entry level, probably more like "toy" level. Fast forward to 2022, and a £50 (used) iPhone 6S and Garageband can do a way better job than all my old kit did! Look on YouTube at a channel called iSongs. It blew my mind and shows quite how powerful this tech has become. (I recommend Sweet Home Alabama 😉) Shaun Day on 65" 1080p multitouch, Samsung DeX powered sit/stand gaming table. I want one sooo much! Phil Hendy on FPS and Pixel 6/6 Pro April Google Security update arrived. Looking for any improvement to FPS. Logged in successfully 100% of 20 attempts, that's with me using 4 imprints and my wife just 1 on her unit. You need to be patient and to not move your finger. Also when you lift-screen-to-wake if AOD is not enabled, you need to allow time for the target area to appear. When my 6 Pro arrived last October I simply could not get my right thumb print to read better than 50% of the time. It’ll never be as lightning quick as capacitive - but no in-screen FPS is. Fingers do need to be clean and dry. Hardline on the hardware: Valve aims to ramp up Steam Deck shipments What do you get inside the Valve Steam Deck retail box? I was going to use rclone to make a backup copy of all my photos uploaded to Google (a topic we touched on in the last show). However, it seems if you try to do this, Google strips all the location information from the photos’ EXIF data. This is a bug that was reported to Google more than three years ago. (I’ll maybe try Google Takeout and see if it does the same.)   John Husband on Linux and Chromebook update Yesterday I decided to turn Linux on my LENOVO IdeaPad Duet and have a play. I am not a Linux expert but have a basic understanding of how Linux works. Using the terminal I have installed Libre Office and Gimp and both packages loaded with no issues. Libre Office Writer runs well but I have not fully tested Gimp. Once you have downloaded the software it places them in a Linux app folder on the desktop where you can easily access them. I then discovered the following video that shows you how to add two Linux App Stores onto your Chromebook (Very easy video to follow) and allows downloading of software without using the Linux terminal. Although the guy who did the video does mention not all software downloaded from Linux App Stores will run on Chromebook as it is still in beta. Open up "Good Lock" again, go into "Home Up > Home screen" and toggle on "Apps List". Open the app drawer and Bob's your giddy Aunt, you can scroll up & down. Sort alphabetically or in custom order using the hamburger menu. Don't forget to explore other Good Lock options, there's loads of fun stuff there. The more the stuff is used, the more likely it is to get rolled into the base firmware. Chris Kelly My free Galaxy Buds Pro arrived yesterday. I tested them watching the WU Assassins on Netflix via the Roku remote app on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. I thought they sounded a bit "thin". Playing with the equaliser didn't make much difference. Then I remembered that the S22U has Dolby Atmos. This made a huge difference - the sound was perfectly adequate. However, when there were gaps in dialogue, the volume of the background sounds was low. It felt like the Atmos system disabled itself and they reverted to their, rather thin, output. As soon as the dialogue restarted the Atmos system kicked back in and raised the  background volume and warmth. Moral of the story, you don’t get somethin’ for nuthin’ and at the very least, use Dolby!   Hardline on the hardware: Samsung fesses up to throttling, but says non-gaming apps weren't affected Geekbench just banned the last four years of Samsung flagships over throttling debacle Samsung's Galaxy Book2 Pro, Pro 360 laptops bring Intel 12th gen, AMOLED screens  The Lenovo Tab M10 Plus is a budget Android tablet that promises three years of security updates Lenovo debuts 11-inch IdeaPad Duet 3 with slimmer bezels, Chrome OS, $399 price tag Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3 Hands-On Impressions - video Lenovo unveils a super slim 5G ThinkPad with 28 hours of battery life New II: Apple's new patented desktop/keyboard hybrid could signal a classic twist on next-gen portable Mac design TCL now has the cheapest 5G tablet you can get, and it has Android 12 J20 rugged Android 11 5G smart phone Ricoh Announces Limited Edition GRIIIx - Urban Version - Specs Flap your trap about an App: Google 1 VPN now available for iOS - Google’s VPN Google is killing Assistant's Snapshot feature, the Now replacement that never took off Microsoft warning: Some files might not be deleted when you reset a Windows PC Microsoft could finally be bringing tabs to the File Explorer in Windows 11 Samsung's Smart Widgets on your One UI 4.1 phone The UK is about to introduce a 'cyberflashing' law that makes unsolicited dick pics a crime ChromeOS News Chromebook USI hits 2.0 with NFC wireless charging support Chrome OS Diagnosis Chrome Extension Reminder Hark Back:  VHS tape lengths   Bargain Basement: Best UK deals and tech on sale we have spotted Bose 752195-0100 SoundLink Color II - Now £89.99 Was: £129.95 HyperX SoloCast – USB Condenser Gaming Microphone, half price at £33.49 - USB-C, lovely design Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3.500 MB/s) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive - Now £86.87 Was: £110.99 JBL Tuner 2 Portable Radio - Bluetooth speaker with DAB and FM radio, 12 hours of wireless music, in black DAB and FM IPX7 12 hours LCD display USB-C £10 off now £79.99  Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ - Was: £799.00 Now: £599.25 Sony Xperia 5 III with Free WH-H910N Noise Cancelling Headphones - £797.99 (£100 off) + 12 x £66.50   Main Show URL: | PodHubUK Contact:: gareth@techaddicts.uk | @techaddictsuk Gareth - @garethmyles | garethmyles.com Ted - tedsalmon.com | Ted’s PayPal | Ted’s Amazon | tedsalmon@post.com YouTube: Tech Addicts The PodHubUK PodcastsPodHubUK - Twitter - MeWe PSC Group - PSC Photos - PSC Classifieds - WhateverWorks - Camera Creations - TechAddictsUK - The TechBox - AAM - AAWP - Chewing Gum for the Ears - Projector Room - Coffee Time - Ted’s Salmagundi - Steve’s Rants’n’Raves - Ted’s Amazon - Steve’s Amazon - Buy Ted a Coffee
