Our Editor's Take

We Talk Back is a podcast where two hilarious friends say things other people wish they could say out loud. Hosts Ashley James "AJ" Holiday and Tamela "TamBam" Bowen talk about whatever they want, including sex, cheating, drugs, dating, and food. They want to help Black women feel comfortable expressing themselves. The vivacious hosts also generate laughter. Their wit is so quick that listeners might replay their retorts to enjoy them twice.

They invite comedians, authors, doctors, and celebrities to authentic discussions. TamBam and AJ ask men to call We Talk Back and explain why they cheat. They use voice filters so the callers can be honest. One man calls himself a "hot tamale" and his 31-year-old girlfriend his "old woman." He feels entitled to cheat while his "boring" girlfriend works as a nurse and goes to graduate school. The caller wouldn't tolerate her cheating, though.

Another man says he cheated, gave his boyfriend a disease, then tried to blame the boyfriend. A third caller theorizes that men are polyamorous and women are hypergamous. TamBam and AJ know when to hang up on callers. They make even the worst things funny on this podcast..

We Talk Back discourages unwise choices. Driving with minimal gas, bald tires, and the oil light on is something they advise against. TamBam and AJ get a good laugh out of bad choices first, though. The hosts lead "Ask a Black Friend" episodes for non-Black callers. They explain how to use white privilege for good and whether white people should attend Black celebrations. AJ and TamBam have "S.I.N.S. of the Week" discussions about awful behavior. NLE Choppa walking women like dogs and Derrick Jaxn's infidelity make that list.

The podcast reveals random sex facts. Listeners learn how female penguins engage in prostitution. One host explains the acronym she created, "S.A.F.E. sex." We Talk Back talks about real issues, like how hard it is to find the right partner. It's so funny that listeners might feel better about wherever they are in that process. New episodes premiere Thursdays.
