With Her Two Hands

Bogi

Formerly known as Trades Lady Happy Hour, With Her Two Hands is a weekly podcast dedicated to celebrating women in the trades. Live, Candid and Unscripted conversations with women who work in the trades building, fixing and making things with their own two hands. Women make up less than 10% of trades people, and in some industry the numbers are as low as 2%. This podcast seeks to change that by shining a light on these incredible women. Celebrating them, sharing their struggles as women in incredibly male dominated fields, and increasing their visibility to attract, retain and create space for that number to start to increase. If she can see it she can BE it. And if HE can see it, he can BELIEVE it. Tune in for these candid conversations every week. Listen, learn, laugh and get to know the women who keep the world running. read less

151.Former Dealer Technician is forging an exciting path as a motorsports technician
Guest:  Heather Holler - Motorsports Mechanic This week I’ll be on location with our guest and we get to see her shop! Heather Holler has traveled all over the world creating the motorsports technician career of her dream, and she’s just getting started! Heather graduated from Universal technical Institute and started out working as a dealership technician for 6 years, but found motorsports calling her name. She got her start in Rally and Rallycross but her hard work, passion and skill led to opportunity after opportunity taking her to work with Subaru, DirtFish Motorsports, RTR and even Hyundai Motorsports for WRC in Germany! Since getting back to the states in late 2022, she participated in Dakar ’23 with X-Raid, ARA Rally with Element RallySport and several special events with RTR. Much or her time now is spent building a 1600 class buggy to race in the SCORE International series in 2024 and 2025 and she’s getting into doing some of the racing herself. Heather was a guest on this series when she was just getting to Germany, but the inter webs ate her episode and I haven’t been able to retrieve. Plus she’s done SO much since I had her on last, I thought we’d have her back on to catch up with all she’s up to! 150. Ford Master Technician with over a decade of experience and a passion for charity work
Guest: Tausha Hamon - Ford Master Technician  Tausha Hamon always felt called to working on cars. But when she was younger, the only way she saw that possible was to go into the paint and body side of the industry. But that left her unfulfilled and envious watching the guys down the hall being trained on engines and in mechanical work. She just didn’t see a path forward for that. She gave up on the dream for a time…. got married, started a family…. but the industry kept calling her. Ultimately she found her way to Universal Technical Institute where she studied general automotive technology and then received specialized training in both Ford and BMW. Tausha found opportunity at a Ford dealership that gave her a chance to get her start and trained her as a light line and electrical technician. Since changing dealerships she leaned in to electrical and has since established herself as a top diagnostic tech with over a decade of experience with Ford. 149. At 19, her high school trades program, drive and determination has set her on the fast track!
We hear often about how shop class has been disappearing from high schools across the country, but we don’t often hear about often incredible CTE high school programs that serve multiple high schools and are popping up around the country. Tonight’s guest, Kaity Trubl, is a recent grad of one of these programs. @westmec serves the north west valley in Phoenix and offers career and trades training programs to be jealous of. She is not yet 20 years old, but her career is already on the fast track. From the moment she picked up a spray gun, she felt at home and knew this is what she wanted to do. She took first place in @skillsusa Arizona in both her junior and senior years, and was 7th and 8th in the nationals those two years. She has been working at Caliber Collision since graduating and is already on production based pay. Kaity has also been helping extensively with the Iron Maven All Female Build, AND helping another one of the ladies do a restoration on her beetle at @girlganggarage. She’s driven, ambitious and not afraid of jumping in and pushing her own skill set. We’ll be chatting about her school program, skills USA, the transition to the work force, and so much more!
