Diane Rowland is the Dean of the College of Earth, Life, and Health Sciences (formerly Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture) and Director of the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station at the University of Maine. For most of her career, Diane has specialized in the physiological mechanisms of crop stress, particularly related to drought and crop water scarcity resilience.  She pioneered the development of primed acclimation, a water  management system that capitalizes on the nearly universal priming  response in crop plants to enhance drought tolerance. Fayeza Ahmed is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University  of Maine. She is the director of the Maine Health, Aging, and Lifestyle  Lab, where the focus of her work is on the intersection of health  factors/behaviors and cognitive functioning. Alaina Weinheimer is a postdoctoral fellow at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences where she examines how bacteria fight viruses in the ocean. She is particularly interested in  jumbo phages, which are phages with really large genomes (> 200 kb). Kevin is a Senior Research Associate at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, where he works in the air-sea exchange laboratory with Dr. Stephen Archer in the biogeochemistry wing of Bigelow Laboratory. The general focus of the laboratory is to understand the sources and controls of atmospherically active gases produced by marine microorganisms. This work helps build a cross-scale understanding of the impacts/feedbacks of climate change, particularly ocean acidification, on critical biogeochemical cycles. Kevin is also part of the team researching how seaweed may be able to help reduce carbon emissions from cows. Kevin was a speaker at the 2022 Maine Science Festival 5 Minute Genius(TM) event. Rebecca Robich and Chuck Lubelczyk are team members at the Vector-Born Disease Laboratory at Maine Health Institute of Research. The team goal includes investigating the spread of disease-carrying ticks and mosquitoes in Maine and the disease agents they carry. Kat Allen is an Assistant Professor School of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Maine, with a  Cooperating Appointment at the Climate Change Institute. Habib Dagher is the founding Executive Director of the Advanced Structures & Composites Center, a National Science Foundation funded research center housed in an 100,000 square foot laboratory with over 350 full and part-time personnel. Habib and his team have been responsible for some remarkable innovations in composites, off-shore wind, and bridge technology - to name just a few. The center has worked with over 500 clients world-wide, including 150 Maine-based companies, and has received top national awards for its research. In October 2015, Habib was recognized as a 2015 White House Transportation Champion of Change as the primary inventor of the composite arch bridge system.
