The Leading podcast hosts are famous for their ability to disagree in an agreeable way. This is quite a feat, considering their political background couldn't be more different.
First, there's podcast cohost Alastair Campbell, a British political strategist. He had a notable role as the director of communications and strategy for the Labour Party. He played a significant part in shaping the party's image. Most people credit him with helping Labour win three consecutive general elections. Between 1997-2000 he was the press secretary and spokesperson to Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Then, there's Rory Stewart, Leading's other cohost, who is on the opposite side of the political aisle. The former diplomat had appointments in Indonesia, Montenegro, and Iraq. From 2010 to 2019, he served as a member of parliament for the Conservative Party.
Somehow, despite being at such odds with each others' worldviews, the pair manages to get along. Not only that, they manage to create a thought-provoking, civil discussion. But Leading is not a podcast that focuses on the pair's dynamics and opinions alone. It's an extension of their other podcast, The Rest Is Politics. It's a place where the two of them get to talk to the great leaders of this generation.
The Leading podcast invites politicians from all views for candid conversations. One episode will have Fiona Hill, who worked under the Trump Administration. Others will host Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. As the hosts are British politicians, guests also include the likes of Tony Blair and Brian Cox. The questions are always thoughtful and reflect the pair's diverse experiences. They leave room for the interviewee to open up in their inquiry. But at the same time, Campbell and Stewart are not scared to press them on controversial issues.
Politics is the podcast's mission. So it still gets discussed even on the odd occasion when the hosts interview someone outside that realm. This show provides an opportunity for listeners to learn more about politics from every possible angle. New episodes of Leading drop each week.
