The Wyrdcraft Podcast

The Wyrdcrafters

A few heathens got together and decided there wasn't enough representation of women, trans, and non-binary heathens in media. There was a lot of screaming, and the podcast was born. Focused on inclusive, anti-folkish heathenry, this show brings to light voices in the greater heathen community that are often overlooked, discussing important topics in Norse Paganism and Heathenry... with some wyrd thrown in. Hosts: Sif, Theo, and Kenna On YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Overcast, Apple Podcasts, and where other podcasts live. Logo art by Forfeda: http://www.forfeda.com read less

Heathen Wyrdos Podcast - The Nornir
Hello! Wyrdos Sif, Theo and Kenna talk all about the Nornir and realise that it's just really confusing. Like your podcasts with a touch of *CHAOS*, you've come to the right place. This is a wild one.  Stay tuned for the episode notes on discord, they'll be up soon because boy it's messy as heck./  Sources: The Norns in Old Norse Mythology - K.B. Pedersen The Well and the Tree - Paul C. Bauschat Prose Edda Poetic Edda - Voluspa- She saw valkyries come from far and wide, ready to ride to Goðþjóð. Skuld held a shield, and Skögul was another, Gunnr, Hildr, Göndul and Geirskögul. - Gyfaginning - These are called Valkyrs: them Odin sends to every battle; they determine men's feyness and award victory. Gudr and Róta and the youngest Norn, she who is called Skuld, ride ever to take the slain and decide fights. - Gylfaginning, Prose Edda so we can blame Snorri- What are the Norns? A hall stands there, fair, under the ash by the well, and out of that hall come three maids, who are called thus: Urdr, Verdandi, Skuld; these maids determine the period of men's lives: we call them Norns; but there are many norns: those who come to each child that is born, to appoint his life; these are of the race of the gods, but the second are of the Elf-people, and the third are of the kindred of the dwarves, as it is said here: Most sundered in birth I say the Norns are; They claim no common kin: Some are of Æsir-kin, some are of Elf-kind, Some are Dvalinn's daughters. * Then said Gangleri: "If the Norns determine the weirds of men, then they apportion exceeding unevenly, seeing that some have a pleasant and luxurious life, but others have little worldly goods or fame; some have long life, others short." Hárr said: "Good norns and of honorable race appoint good life; but those men that suffer evil fortunes are governed by evil norns. *Sif note: interesting, because this sort of echoes the Valkyries - that people can become Valkyries regardless of origin. It’s a title, an occupation, perhaps. Fate-weaving or something akin to that is something that was treasured and prized, leading to an elevated station, potentially. Which also echoes the real world and ‘women’s work’ which was crucial to Viking Age life. So many cool little connections. Heathen Wyrdos Podcast - Evil in Heathenry
WELCOME TO SEASON 3!  This episode we come in like a wrecking ball to demolish the ideas around 'evil' in heathenry. It's not as simple as saying the Aesir are good and the Jotunn are bad. Want to know more? Listen in. Wyrdos Sif, Theo and Kenna discuss the origins of the word evil, and how it shouldn't be used to define or label our Nordic gods.  - LINKS: Angrboda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVhIWgtUtws Ocean’s Multipart Soul: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmQb8qZk-qg Sif’s Multipart Soul:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY9oRL6Fl3A Battista paper: http://www.sagaconference.org/SC13/SC13_Battista.pdf Sacred Texts, Havamal: https://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe04.htm Ocean’s Fenrir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0dNasvVewk Wyrdos Oaths: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjViHwwSXcQ Excerpts: Havamal 117 “Wounded to death, have I seen a man by the words of an evil woman; a lying tongue had bereft him of life, and all without reason of right.” - Völuspá 38-39, Ursula Dronke Sal sá hón standa sólo fiarri, Nástrǫndu á, norðr horfa dyrr. Heathen Wyrdos Podcast Ep 9 - Feminism In Heathenry: Tradwives & Shieldmaidens

Heathen Wyrdos Podcast Ep 9 - Feminism In Heathenry: Tradwives & Shieldmaidens
Hello! This week, Wyrdos Jai, Sif, Kenna, and Theo talk about Feminism in Heathenry. We tackle some of the views of the worst groups in heathenry in regards to women in Pre-Christian Scandinavia, including the nonsense that there were no women warriors in the sagas. We also touch on the sexualisation of the Valkyries and how the gods themselves transcend gender.  Disclaimer: Trans rights are human rights. Infuriatingly the academic language sticks rigidly to the gender binary, with little consideration to the greater spectrum. For reference, Sif would like people to know that the women she mentions in the sagas are as follows (the captions decidedly did not like these names) Saxo writes about Hetha, Visna and Vebiorg, Alvild and her daughter, GyrithLagertha (not mentioned in the podcast, but is an obvious one)Freydis EiriksdottirThordis SursdotirAudr and ThuridrThorhildr VadlaekkjaHervor BjarmarsdottirOlof, Queen of Saxaland in the Saga of Hrolf KrakiAnd dozens of unnamed women warriors that pop up here and there in the sagasMythologically speaking, we have the Disir, Fylgjur, Hamingjur, Valkyries and Nornir (Fylgjur and Hamingjur sometimes show themselves in more feminine forms). Skadi. Thorgerdr Holgabrudr and her sister Irpa in Jomsvikings Saga. We also have giantesses as warriors throughout the mythological sagas.  - Join the Heathen Wyrdos Discord Server (beware, may contain cheese and bagels)- https://discord.gg/vyXntbzSxN Want to support the Wyrdos? https://ko-fi.com/heathenwyrdos We now have a Redbubble store as well if you're after some Wyrdos merch: https://www.redbubble.com/people/heathenwyrdos/shop Find Heathen Wyrdos Podcast on Youtube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podbay, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and other places where podcasts live.
