Revelation 18: John on Patmos: Where God's Revelation Meets our Barrenness! (1:9)

The Bible Mind Podcast: Experiencing our Life and Times from a Christian Perspective

25-06-2022 • 41 mins

Today I will talk about issues related to the significance of John being on the island of Patmos.

What lessons can we learn from how God encountered him in this most unlikely of places?

And what parallels to John's example can we discover in our own lives?  There may be more than you'd expect.

If you've ever been in a barren place or a wilderness season in your life, I think you'll definitely be able to relate to today's episode.

For all of God's vast transcendence, He seems to work in some predictable ways:   If you're faithfully walking with God and haven't been in a wilderness season, no doubt you will be in the future.

We can learn from John and others how to successfully walk through these God-appointed seasons of our lives.

Before I dive into more of the Revelation study, I share the latest discoveries coming out of the Ulvade mass shooting case.  What's been uncovered over the past couple of weeks?   One of the most common comments I've read has been... the more that's revealed, the worse it gets.

Will the people of Ulvade ever truly know what took place on that day, and, more importantly, will they ever get justice for the precious lives that were lost?

I've made a big deal out of this case, because I never want to see anything like this happen ever again!   As believers, we can pray for the hidden things to be revealed, and for justice to be brought to this situation.  (Luke 18)

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1.  In reference to the Ulvade case:  do you believe that "the court of public opinion" can make a difference, not only this situation, but as a  way to deter future "police inaction and delay" from occurring?   Why or why not?

2.  How can you pray effectively for God to bring justice to the Ulvade case?

3.  Have you ever been through a long, dry, barren season?  Looking back, maybe God had led you into the wilderness.  What lessons, if any, did you learn during that time?  Did God encounter you with a new revelation of Himself?

Maybe you're currently in that season, like I am.

In what ways are you seeking to deepen your root system, so as to tap into the "streams of living water?"

In what ways have you been tempted to "check out?"  What can you do to fortify your spirit in order to stay connected with Jesus and "remain in the vine?"  As we learned in the podcast episode today, it's possible to continue to bear fruit in these dry wilderness seasons.
